Higher Education: Courses, Departments and Establishments

If anyone is considering beginning or transferring a course, I highly recommend this site: HERO RAE (Higher Education & Research Opportunities, Research Assessment Exercise).

This study is conducted by the University Grants Committee (UGC) and rates each course against its equivalents in every HE establishment across the UK so that prospective students have absolute clarity as to which school will offer them the best education and resources. As a result of the removal of the distinction between universities and polytechnics back in the early 1990s, there is greater forcus upon departments of excellence rather than HE establishments being able to attract students by name alone. It's actually quite a revealing read!

NB The 2001 is the latest completed study - a 2006 report is yet to be published.

I always thought Open University did good courses. Although i have never done any. When I've gotten used to baby, i am thinking of starting a course so that when DF is away i can get a good job. When babys able to go to school

the OU is very good, ive done a diploma in the past and i am currently 1/2 way through a Bsc.

It can be hard to juggle mother hood and study but as long as you are open with any problems with your tutor they are very supportive.
    Good luck

Question about the OU....every course I have looked at requires a 1 week residential course as part of the degree. Is there any way around doing this?

Tact is for people who aren't witty enough to be sarcastic.

none of my courses have ever had a residential element to it, as all mine are in the Health and Social care . If you spoke direct to the admin for the course you are interested in and explained your problems then im sure they could give you advice.
