    Yet another newbie

    Hi

I have been lurking on here for a little while as it is full of useful info so I thought I should post an intro.

I'm afraid I'm just a friend, rather than family or other half (so I hope it's OK for me to be on here) but one of my best friends is in the signals. He has been in Afghanistan until recently and I've been sending him parcels and blueys and I initially came on here looking for ideas of things to put in them (I found lots by the way -thanks).

He got back to Germany a few days ago and we planned to meet up when he was in the UK on R&R in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately he called today to say that he will now be going to Iraq for a month or so so R&R has been delayed somewhat. So I have my first experience of the way the army works I really admire all you folks for being able to put up with it.

Anyway, I'm hoping I'll find more interesting ideas and info on here - I'm just waiting for the address in Iraq to put some of the parcel ideas into practice (although I suspect that some of the ideas may be more suited to a 'girlfriend' than a 'girl friend' - he's definately not getting naked pics of me! so I will pick and choose carefully!)

    Thanks

    Hiya,

I started as just a friend, (were at school together though), but when my guy was in iraq they do a lot of thinkin when they have quiet time and makes them realise what good 'friends' they have here and what it is they actually want. 2 weeks after my guy got back, we got together, 3 years later its still good. The TA's as much a part of my life as it is his now.

Hello to both of you and welcome to Rear Party!

Of course you can be here just as a friend - that's all I am though a few years ago I had the dubious privilege of being a squaddie's girlfriend!

Get stuck into the forums here and feel free to join in existing threads and start new ones. There're often people in the chatroom too, so pop in to say hello some time.

Hope you enjoy RP and please do tell other people about the site – the more the merrier!

    Hun,

Being a 'friend' doesn't make you any less important. If you want things to send him in a parcel, go online or to cheap shops and find silly little things. I found kool-aid always went down well as drinking all that water can get really boring and the boys that I sent it to really liked it. Try www.koolaiduk.com cos he'll send it out direct if you ask nicely

Otherwise I might be able to find you some silly websites. The army can be difficult to deal with sometimes but there are ways to deal and being here is one of them.

    Stay around and join in.

    Re: Yet another newbie

Thanks so much for the welcome.

I'm really glad it's OK to be here as just a friend as I feel so 'unofficial', I don't know his family so if anything happened to him there is no way I would find out about it before his name was released on the news which isn't a nice thought, but I guess there are an awful lot of people in the same position.

I just want to be able to send him little things to make him smile when the post arrives. I think than cheap toys are a really good idea and something that I'd never have thought about. I've also discovered that Amazon deliver direct to BFPO addresses which is great.

Thanks again, it's good to feel like I belong here.

    Hun,

You're not the only one that feels 'unofficial' I was a gf when my ex went out and I didn't feel like I exisited, in the army's eyes anyway. I didn't know his family either although he told me if anything happened I'd find out. There are LOADS of companies that will send to BFPO's (which is impressive considering all they need to do is get it to London, cos the army does the rest!)

Jump straight in, the ladies (and gents) are lovely.

    Re: Yet another newbie

Thanks so much for the lovely warm welcome

I shall definately stay around here

I was wandering around town today and I found myself in poundstretcher wondering how quickly sand would kill a remote control car and whether he'd like an action man or a glow in the dark frisbee...! So thanks for the ideas.

Now I just need to wait until he actually goes to Iraq and gets round to sending me his address out there to start sending things - I hope they go down well. I was looking through some old photos yesterday and realised that he was doing something silly in almost all of them so hopefully he'll appreciate some silly toys
