    Newbie!! ;)

    Hello! :waves:

I'm slightly embarassed - I joined the ARRSE site, after friends from work and my hubby told me about it, and I posted an introduction - only to be told it would be better if I came along here to say hi, as I probably wouldn't get so much abuse and rib-taking here!! lol!! I don't mind - I've already had a few cheeky comments! *shrugs* You tend to take it in your stride after being married to a soldier for so many years!

    Anyway, sorry, I'll start again!

Hi, my names Jeannie, and I've been married to my bloke for 10 years now. Sometimes - I don't know if I speak for anyone else here or not but - I feel like I'm married to the damn army, not just my hubby!

Ok, so, has anybody got any advice for moving back to the UK? We're posted in October to Catterick, and it's been 10 years since I lived in the UK, so I'm pretty apprehensive about it! I'm in Germany at the moment, so I'm easily pleased, anyone who speaks English in a shop will make me happy!! lol!!

Nice to be here, hope to meet some of you on here soon.

    Hello w_w!

There's no need to be embarrassed! You found the right forum on ARRSE, so it's not as if you blundered into The NAAFI in the middle of Naked Bar...

I'm the Dozy referred to by StabTiffy2B on ARRSE and he's right, I normally try to guide people who use The Other Half forum on ARRSE over here, mainly because some of the advice can be, erm, interesting and has been known to upset the odd person!

Anyhow, welcome to RP, I'm sure that there's at least one member who'll be able to give you some advice. I spent a year Sausage Side, in Frankfurt, and although I loved it, the very limited hours that the shops were open drove me insane, so coming home to 24hr Tesco was wonderful! I'm recently back from 2 years in Singapore and it took a good couple of months to readjust, but some of that was realising that the country wasn't in as much of a depressive state as (from reading the newspapers) I'd thought it was. I was lucky and had a month off when I arrived back, driving almost the length and breadth of the country, visiting friends and family, so I was surrounded by positive feelings from the start, which helped a great deal. You’ll have lots on your plate with sorting out your new home, so you’ll probably be too busy for it to really hit you right away and after a few weeks you’ll probably wonder what you were worrying about in the first place! I hope your move goes smoothly and you get back without a hitch.

Enjoy RP, get stuck into the forums and Chat, don't be afraid to ask more questions and dish out advice of your own!

    Hello and Welcome to RP,

Sorry you didn't get a very nice welcome on ARRSE, but thankfully you found us (we are a much nicer bunch here [even if i do say so myself]).

As you may notice from my location i am currently in Germany, however my last residence was Catterick, so if you have any questions about the place feel free to drop me a PM and I will do my best to answer any questions you may have - no matter how daft they might seem to you!

My Son (also serving) is a wiccan. He has been since he was 16. He'll be pleased to hear that wicca is spreading in his line of business.

Wiccan is a form of religion, wiccan - wicca, they are actually peaceful, unlike others who would disagree but what would they know lol Joint in with Pagans, wicca is not essentially witch craft like people think and others do practise the cult in covens.

They worship trees, sky GODS etc. It is more to do with nature than a person. Christmas, birth of Jesus was actually taken from the Sun God's brithday of the 25th, we translated it into the son of god.

Well said Jo, although there is a lot more to it. Wicca is more of a feeling from within, rather than an organised religion. It's respect for everything around you, and in particular Mother Earth. She provides us with everything, the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink. It breaks my heart to see the way we treat her. Wicca has become "fashionable" over the last 20 years. Students, in particular, seem to like to shock people with their "new age" knowledge. New age??? It's common sense! Look after the Earth and she will look after you. Like anything in life, if you keep taking and taking without giving anything back, eventually there will be nothing left.

Many of the modern "christian" hoidays are taken from old pagan feast days, Ostara, from Easter, which is always celebrated with an egg to show the new cycle of life. Samhain, which incorporates Halloween and All Saints day (1st November) the one day in teh year which you can communicate with the dead, Beltane, which we still use as a day for morris dancers. Just to mention a few...
In fact, the catholic church around the 5th and 6th century realised that they would have so much trouble trying to convert pagans to christianity that they just took over a lot of the feast days and incorporated them into their own religion to make it more palatable for the followers of the original religion.

There is no harm in spending a little time every day, or even every month, just looking around you and appreciating what you see. "Worshipping" is a strong word, and is probably best left to Scott Cunningham's followers.

Right, now you know what sort of a nutter I really am, I'm going to crawl back into my box and carry on with the packing for my holijollies. I'll be back, refreshed and raring to go in 3 weeks time.

    Have a nice summer y'all!

Aww, hey, they're mostly squaddies over there, so I guess most of us should know how cheeky they can be!! I just got a lot of ribbing for using msn/text language - and I only used it once! But not to worry, they don't mean any harm, and the majority of us can handle them can't we! You are definitely right, everyone here is very welcoming and lovely, and I thank you for being so kind to me.

Thank you about Catterick, I shall be dropping you a quick PM to just ask some general queries, I'm going to my local HIVE as well, but sometimes it's difficult for them to get all the information needed.

And yes, to answer a couple of queries, I am Wiccan, I have been practising Wicca for nearly 17 years now, and the path I follow is a generalised path because of the way we move around in the forces. It's difficult to belong to a coven, as you just can't commit yourself to one for long. And no, we aren't a bunch of "devil worshippers" or anything as horrid as that! The Craft is one of the oldest religions in the world, with Christianity taking a lot of it's holidays and festivals from age of Pagan traditions. We basically believe that the Earth should be worshipped, that there is balance in all of life and that we should respect everything on our planet and take care of it, that we have a "God" and "Goddess" that we ask for help with certain things in our own lives, but we are here to help others as well. There are many different paths in The Craft - Gardnerian/Alexandrian to name but two, but this link here --> http://paganinstitute.org/p-what_is_paganism.html may help anyone who is interested in knowing more.

Anyway, thank you all again for being so incredibly nice, I appreciate it very much.

    Thank you!!

Aww, again, a huge thank you to you all for making me feel so welcome - I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do with my other intro of the ARRSE site though - they're a load of cheeky buggers aren't they?! lol!!

I got cained for using internet/text/msn jargon, (such as the "lol"!) and now they want piccies of me in my underwear!! Rude load of squaddies!!

I know we should be used to it - but anyone got any top wisecracks/witty puns in reply to some of these comments I'm getting? No way am I putting up any photos of myself on ARRSE!! You've also got to be careful how you get the wit across - one way or another and they take it all the wrong way!

You know, it's so much easier to give them lip if you see them out on the town, but on here it seems harder!

Um, some of them read RP too, so any 'plotting' out in the open here will be seen and thus defeat the purpose... And as for anyone taking it the wrong way, most people on ARRSE have very thick hides, so don't take any of it personally and don't fret about making anyone cry...

    Dozy,

Hahaha, after reading your reply, I just realised how right you are!!

I shall take your advice hun and leave them to it - I should know better after being in the envirnoment for so long now!

Cheers for being so great on here as well - what with hubby being in Iraq right now, and friends of mine pointing me in this direction I hope to fill my rather dull days by coming on here and seeing what things there are to chat about. That's the only problem with having no kids, doing a school job with long holidays (not that I'm complaining about that though!) and being stuck up here in Paderborn while the rest of our squadron is in Sennelager...most of my mates are away in the UK on leave as well, so I look forward to my time on here.
