I'm making this an announcement so that people are aware. Any questions ref. Paradigm please see below. It will become a sticky thread in the Welcome forum in a while.

Useful Information

Paradigm launched it’s Wi-Fi service across main operating bases in December 2008 to complement the existing telephone and internet facilities in theatre. The Wi-Fi service is extremely popular today, so in order to ensure fair use for all and in accordance with MOD policy, please be reminded of the below useful tips

How to help your loved one get online In-theatre

Inform them with the following steps

1. Use only as a messaging service and not to browse the web or download information

2. Use the mobile version of websites e.g. instead of www.facebook.com, go to http://m.facebook.com

3. If you experience trouble logging on to the Wi-Fi network, this may be because an Op Minimise has been enforced; check for details in theatre

4. If you have any auto updates active other than your antivirus software, ensure that they are turned off

5. Follow the steps in your user guide which is available from the Paradigm engineers on site or via the Bastion or Kandahar WelComE centres

How your loved one receives their account card?

On arrival in theatre, each entitled troop will be handed a Paradigm account card which is activated via their J1 administrator. The first 30 minutes is already pre-loaded, and once we have received the activation request from the J1 administrator, the account is ready to be used.

Topping up your loved ones account?

You will need to contact the WelComE Customer Contact Centre (WCCC) by dialling 0800 4334 993*. Families and friends will need the 9 digit account card number of their loved one in theatre. Disposable top up cards can also be purchased from the NAAFI in theatre.

Why can't we top up at the weekend?

Deployed personnel in theatre are able to top up their account at any time by registering to the automated top up facility, please call the WCCC on 0800 4334 993* or by dialling *0 from any Paradigm provided phone.

Currently, users who are not registered, family and friends are unable to top up loved ones account over the weekend period.

Call rates depend on the type of phone, where they are calling from and to. All rates are displayed in theatre or on the end users portal for personnel to view. An example of a call rate: if he called from an in-theatre cabin to a UK landline (between the hours of 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday) he will be charged 10.7p per minute.

Please note all calls will be rounded up to a whole penny.
