Catterick Garrison - another newbie in town!

    hi folks

I've posted a message but think I actually posted it in the wrong forum...anyhoo just moved to the Catterick Garrison and don't know anyone. Was living at home before so the whole "army GF" thing is a little new to me...love to hear from anyone whose been down the "newbie" path before and you can offer some (positive) wisdom.

    Just thought I'd say hi.

    Welcome!

Am not in Catterick myself but thought there might be some useful info here for you:

I'm sure that the contributors to the forum who live/have lived in Catterick will be online later to give you other tips.

Re: Catterick Garrison - another newbie in town!

    Hello......
I used to live up in Catterick, not sure if there is anything I can tell you that you won't already know.
Hope you like it, its not a bad place.

Got some really nice places all around it if you like the great outdoors, great country pubs at stuff.

When I was there I didn't live near anyone from my husbands regiment to begin with, so I made sure I attended all the family things they laid on so I could get to know people. We got on well with our neighbours, and I met people through my daughter's school. Its no different to civi life and moving to a new town really.

You may find you get to know someone and then either you or they get posted, that's one of the bad bits of army life-but with the internet its easy to stay in touch.

There used to be a nice chipshop up on the edge of the Carnagil estate, when I left they were building a singlies accomodation camp over the road from it.

Oh, its probably quiet because of deplyments and stuff. It used to be heaving up there, you'd have to queue up to get out on a friday afternoon. Tesco was always full of guys with an ironing board under one arm and a crate of stella under the other.

Sorry if my info is useless!

hey! Info is not useless at all! Its very much appreciated. I've moved house but never actually moved town rather sadly so this is the first big jump.

must be quite a few people on deployment - tesco is always heaving but not quite sure where they all go after that..although I do like Bar 28. yet to get myself there on a sunday where i hear its 1 a drink!

good ideal about the family things too might see what they got on.

Thanks also for the links! much appreciated

Some people are like slinkies, they're really good for nothing...but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs!
