    Hey everyone! Another Newbie!

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. My names Vicky and Im 20 years old. My boyfriend has just recently joined the grenadier guards. Hes still in training at catterick at the mo but is due to pass out the end of November. Weve been together for over 4 years now so as u can imagine it was a huge shock when he decided to sign up but so far so good!

Im planning on living away from him when he goes to London and Aldershot because I am a full time student and cannot leave my course but we are staying together and hoping the long distance thing will go ok for a while. I think we can make it work seeing each other every few weeks for now. Hopefully anyway!

Anyway jus wanted to say that I think its great that you have this site its just the thing I need at the mo thanx

    Hi Vicky,

I've just spent a year and a half doing the long distance thing while my boyfriend was training. It's really tough sometimes but if you'll get through it and your relationship will be stronger for it.

    Hope you enjoy the site!

    Hi Vicky,

I've just spent pretty much the last 1.5 years away from my OH. First off he was away for 4 months, then joined the RM which meant that he spent a year in training. It was down in Devon and we are from Scotland so we were miles apart!! Made every effort to see each other on free weekends and got holidays as well. He's now in afghan for 6 months... we've not had the best of luck with the timing, but our time will come when he gets back.

Just make every moment you're together count as it will be hard when you are apart. Just be proud of him, and be strong! I don't have the most conventional of relationships, but I love my OH and wouldn't change what we have for the world ...ok maybe I would fast forward 6 months ha ha

Omg you really havent had the best luck have you. I imagine the last year n a half has been awful. Is he back to scotland then when he gets back?

I am so glad to hear that these kind of relationships are working, were going to be the same for the next yr or so because hes scheduled to go on loads of training abroad an then afghan in sept but ive had lots of notice and from what Ive read on here thats more than a lot of people get, when their OH is given 2 weeks notice! I am dreading that happening! but like you said i just have to be strong and at the moment we manage to see each other every couple of weeks.

The last few months have made us so much stronger as a couple and I find myself wishing away the weeks untill I see him!

    Thanx very much laalaa x x x

We're trying to move in together but things have gone alittle bit astray. I left my job and hometown a few weeks ago to relocate and get a flat together, but we've had a few problems. Although I'm in the same town as my boyfriend now I'm still living on my own in temporary accommodation. He goes away next week till xmas so if I find a job and somewhere to live in the next week I'll be staying...if not I'll be going back home with my tail between my legs!

Doing the long distance thing seems like a breeze in comparison! Sometimes it can be tough being with someone in the forces, but if you want to make it work then somehow you always find a way.

    Re: Hey everyone! Another Newbie!

    Hi both

    Vicky,

We did the long distance thing for the last year and a half of OH at uni and then had a year together before he started his basic this year. Just had our first weeks leave together which was fantastic! It can work if you want it to and you'll find as many different opinions on how to make it work as you will people who are doing it

Whether you live together or apart a relationship will work and last for as long as you both work at it and want it too.

If I have one word of advice its don't let the people around you make you being apart an issue, it doesn't have to be. Its your chosen lifestyle and they probably wont understand it unless they are in the same boat, but almost everyone on here will.

    Good luck hun xxx
Don't waste today worrying about tomorrow.

A true heart and soul connection won't be broken by distance or time.

What do you mean wine isn't the answer!!!

Thanx very much. weve been together for 4 years now so I am planning on doing everything to stay together and hopefully in the future we will look at moving together. i think being at unis gonna help a lot though because it will give me something to put my mind to while hes away. Yeah I understand exactly what u mean nobodyelse seems to understand what we are going through and so that is why I decided to join this site and everyone has been great.

    Thank you for your advice
