Have you tried friends reunited? I don't know whether many people use that site anymore but it might be worth a try?

Or you could try googling his name and see what it comes up with?

    Hi

I was just wondering whether, without breaching OPSEC of course, you could tell us which branch of the Armed Forces the person you are looking for is with i.e. Army/RAF/Royal Navy/Royal Marines? Don't be too specific (OPSEC!).

Do you mean OPSEC or PERSEC?

    Re: hey there

Hmm, s-d, you're right OPSEC or PERSEC?.....

Went to ask the oracle (who's all cosy in the bedroom at the moment, watching the Grand Prix).

The different breaches, as I understand it, are if, say, "looking_for" were to say "He said he'd been in Iraq with 007 Commando (made that up!) and that they are going to go back to Iraq (Basra) in January 2009 ......", that would be a breach of OPSEC, but if she were to say "He told me his name was Digger Yankeedoodle (Service Number 111222333) and that he's a Royal Marine from Plymouth", that would be a breach of PERSEC.

Either way, I didn't want to put her in a situation where she was inadvertently breaching either.

If he is of a certain persuasion, my OH may be able to forward a letter for her.

Gosh, I hope that makes some sense!

My bold - that would be PERSEC not OPSEC becasue as you stated OPSEC is information relevant to Operations, PERSEC is information relating to the person!
