    Hello from Aberdeen!

    Hi everyone,
I'm 22 and live in Aberdeen. My oh is just into his 2nd week at RMAS so I'm just getting used to life without him again. We've been together for 3 and a half years, and he's been a military man since I've known him. While he was doing his degree he was in 4 para and in 2006 he spent 6 months in Iraq. Just wanted to get on here to get some support and general advice and friendship, as I think I'm going to need it - this is just the start of a looooong period of separation. It's hard already but I'd rather be with him and have him away than not be with him at all. I figure it's better to talk to people who actually understand, my flatmate's oh lives an hour away and everytime I mention I'm missing mine I feel like she tries to turn it into a competition!
I recently graduated and am working as an Assistant Psychologist until I get accepted onto my doctorate. So for the time being I'm stuck in Aberdeen until I find something elsewhere...but not sure where he will end up after Sandhurst.
    That's it really about me!
    Just thought I'd say hi!

Hello to you, welcome to Rear.

None of my non army friends and even my family have any idea of what its like to be with a soldier, I gave up trying to explain things. Now I just go to them when I need cheering up and want to let my hair down.

And when I am stuck in wet, soggy Wales-I come on here!

    Rinky xx

    Re: Hello from Aberdeen!

I think you're right rinky_, they're good for a night out but they just don't understand. She's moving in with her fella in the summer - I have to put up with him going away until he retires! The best was when her previous oh was living in Edinburgh while mine was in Iraq. I got the whole "at least that's only for 6 months - there's no end to this for me!"
I was like err Edinburgh is 2 hours away, you can phone him when you want and he's not in a FLIPPIN WAR ZONE!
I was born in Carmarthen by the way and spent 6 years in Llanelli!

Liz, that's a good idea and she drinks green tea so she wouldn't even notice the taste if I weed in it! Yeah Aberdeen's freezing, I'm not even from here so it's worse! 6 years in wales, 10 in Manchester so I'm used to warmer (if slightly wetter) climates than this! At least I'm near the sea!

Thanks for the welcome guys, I already feel better and that's a good sign!

If you are doing psychology, join the TA in Aberdeen. They have medical units there and I have a contact if you would like any info.

Thanks Liz, do you know if they take Assistant Psychologists?
Was thinking about moving to London for more job and course opportunities, and also the transport links would mean it'd be easier to see the fella, but it's a bit scary so not sure if I will yet!

    Hello and welcome

My best friend has just started at RMAS too - I've already had a 'OMG, I'm really here' phone call and a 'Why am I doing this, its horrible' phone call as well! I've just spent 4.25 (when did Royal Mail get so expensive!) on sending her a parcel stuffed with chocolate!

yeah i got a picture message of old college saying "aaaaahhhhhh" underneath it. get a midnight phone call every night saying how exhausted but bored he is with the basic-ness of the training. not sure what exactly he expected - he knew it would be basic! he's duty cadet, or he was til today so he's been running round a bit. he's not really after anything sent to him, but he did leave a pair of socks at mine that i may send him - aren't i generous!

    haha not sure about that

thanks for all the support it's good to hear stories where it does work, all you seem to hear is when it doesn't work. but i'm determined it'll take more than this to break us!

HIYA! You have my every sympathy being in Aberdeen - though I do like the place!

As for your flatmate - I had the same problem a few years ago (different man to my husband, long distances still involved) as my mate said "He lives so far away - an hour's drive - and I don't have a car".

Hm. I found that making laxative brownies whilst not curing MY man-sickness, gave me something to chuckle over for a while every time she complained. I thought "give her something to complain about!"

haha that's a great idea! she's got a lot better recently since she decided she was going to move in with him, but really how can 1 hour be equal to the opposite end of the country!

    Re: Hello from Aberdeen!

That's the problem - some people just can't see the bigger picture and only what's happening to them. Shame she can't see that she's lucky her man isn't being shot at either.

Being an hour away is still hard, not dissing that fact in the slightest either, but competition-hard-done-by-ness just GRIPS my SH!!

    Opinionated, Moi?
