    Stuck for ideas.....

    Can you help?

I am getting married (very soon) and am sending out invites this weekend. However as the wedding is quite *shall we say* spur of the moment..... We haven't really had time to plan a reception as such.

I want to make it clear to guests that we don't need gifts or money as we have everything we need (thanks to co habiting ). As a gift instead we would like people to join us for a meal after the ceremony, but pay for themselves. Kind of thier gift (should they wish to) to share in the celebration.

Here's the thing, I wanted to relay this in a nice little poem or ditty in the card with a menu that they can pre order from the restaurant. Thinking that this is a nice way to avoid any embarrasing (Ooops i thought this was a paid meal) moments.

I have looked and looked on the internet for such a service that I give them the requirements and they come up with a diity for me? Can I find such a service? Nope! maybe theres a gap in the market????

So if anyone knows of anyone or if anyone has a creative mind and would be willing to think of something cute, funny and rhyming that I could write then I would LOVE to hear from you.

Many thanks in advance ( and in hope)

    Re: Stuck for ideas.....

    n a wedding invitation,
    You usually find some lists,
    For venues, menus and hotels,
    And also for the gifts

    But this one is unusual,
It comes in a different way,
As we're not asking for presents,
    But for something else today

Now please don't think we're selfish,
Or that this comes from greed,
But we've lived together for a while,
So there's not that much we need

As this is all quite last minute
    And our reception is unpaid
If you want to pay for your meal
To join in, that would be great

Is that the kind of thing you're looking for?

The last verse is a bit suspect, I know, but it's the first thing that came to my head. I'll have a think for you...

You are amazing, yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

Always respectfully envious of a talent that can think of things that quickly.

    Nigh on Genius!

I will admit that the first part is copied verbatim from somewhere else...

Each to their own but what an odd idea!

    Poem was very good though.

Unless it was my bestest mate in the whole world I dont think I would bother attending if I had to pay for myself, drinks fair enough but the meal - bizarre!!

We are planning our wedding and we like you have everything we need so are asking for holiday vouchers, like I said though each to their own.

    Have a great day!

People don't mind paying their own now adays, weddings are ricdiculously pricey and people now see that, they'd rather have the couple enjoy their day than putting themselves under a massive amount of pressure of having to pay over the odds for meals. - if it was my mate/family it wouldnt bother me by paying!!!!

Like I said each to their own but I think its bizarre, I'd prefer to save for X amount of time rather than ask my guests to pay for their own food!!

Chances are paying for the meal would work out cheaper than the average wedding list gift - and if you don't have it in a ridiculous location that forces every single one of your guests to stay in a hotel for two nights they'll love you more...

My friends did something like that, they said we don't need loads of things coz they live on a canal boat and just don't have the room, so they asked for money or vouchers. Which worked out cheaper for us!

Brilliant idea! My pals got married a couple of years ago and the invitation said 'Bring a Plate' !!! When I asked what this meant the bride-to-be said every one was bringing a plate of food for the buffet!! I thought this was a bit odd but it worked really well.It was an amazing reception and the amount, and variety, of food was unreal as most people actually brought 2 or 3 plates of food.

Love this idea - when guests at a wedding are actually involved in making it happen, rather than sitting back and watching like an audience at the theatre.

    Re: Stuck for ideas.....

we didn t ask for gifts at our wedding since people aready had to pay for staying at a hotel and many of them for a flight from germany.
we paid for the buffet but couldn t afford to pay for drinks either -most guests didn t mind it but we should have made it clear(er) to begin with -we only told people when we were actually at the reception; that was simply cause with all the excitement we simply forgot to think about telling people beforehand.
-so i believe telling the guest via a poem on the invites is a brilleant idea -and what a good one Deeply!!
good luck Sammi and all the best for you happy couple!!

Thanks guys. I know it's unconventional, but the people invited are close friends and family. All of whom know and understand why we have chosen to do it this way. They would all prefer to share out day knowing that we haven't bankrupted ourselves to do it.

Exactly right to each thier own ( I think I was one of the only people to not slag off Jordan for her choice in wedding)

Thank you all for your well wishes, I'm a very excited girl indeedy...xx

    hey babes
just a thought – we are buying booze for ours – but only 2 bottles or something for each table (as not flash with cash at the mo) – its not expensive stuff – but we are making our own labels up with my friends and putting them on the bottles? Don’t know if its any use????

Ps – I’m starting to love the bring ure own plate idea. I think I might bulk out the carters food with some stuff we can make

I think it's right that people feel more involved if you ask them to do stuff instead of just turning up for what they can get out of it. I know that if a friend or family member ever invited me to a wedding and gave me the option to chip in somhow I'd jump at the chance. I love when everybody gets involved.

We have the champagne for the toast covered so everybody will be getting a couple of drinks, and party favours.

The only thing were asking them to pay for is the meal, and as I said I've sorted a really good price for a three course menu.

    Re: Stuck for ideas.....

i think with the modern couple nowadays, as romantic as a gift might seem, practicality kicks in!
I wanted to get something really nice for my sis when she got married but they insisted they would much prefer a contribution to an expense so we helped them out with the photographer.
I'm sure if wedding guests are good enough friends then they won't mind contributing to the day if its what the bride and groom would like.

Some people are like slinkies, they're really good for nothing...but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs!
