    welcoming new arrivals

Hi, just wondered what the general consensus was on new arrivals on married patches. Is it the norm to ignore new arrivals or is it the case where you go and introduce yourself and say hi? I have in the past gone to new neighbours with a bottle of wine and an offer of help if they needed it, but our last 2 posting i have been met with rudeness or total lack of common decency. Are we changing or have i just been unlucky?

I normally introduce myself and offer to help.

    I never offer wine!

If they engage in further conversation then I class it as a bonus.

I have never been given wine, but have always welcomed a quick chat with neighbours, I have never been rude, after all you have to live nextdoor to them! Thinking about it at almost every posting our neighbours have become good friends - oh no now look what I've done I've got the Neighbours tune in me head!

    Re: welcoming new arrivals

When I moved to where I am living now (not MQ or military at all) I was greeted by a bloke putting a pot plant on the doormat with a card. I asked who it was for, he replied "whoever is moving in". I stupidly thought that it was for the previous resident, it wasn't, it was for me!!!!! It was a 'welcome to your new home card'. How often do you get that kind of welcoming?

That stayed with me even though that Mo & Chris have now passed on, I greet all new neighbours with that attitude, helpful and friendly, after all, it costs nothing, the most it will cost is a 2.00 pot plant and a 50p card.

Welcome Tippex - I am not sure if neighbours in patches are any different to other neighbours. I have never lived on a patch, but certainly the friendliness differs from town to town or village to village - the only difference being that one generally gets to check out the neighbours before moving in!

Anyway I don't think that you will find anyone refusing a bottle of wine here - more likely you will get asked to draw up a chair, and get offered several (bottles of wine I mean) in exchange.

    Hello Tippex,
You are not alone. I moved back in June, and it seems everyone on my estate keeps themselves to themselves-which is really boring. Our old place was like a scene out of neighbours or something. Our neighbours used to sit out front drinking beer and chatting til the early hours.

I hope that things improve in the future, its not like we don't have anything in common!

And Helllooooooo to Pierpoint, welcome to RP.
