not sure what i'm doing really

    Hi,

I'm honestly not sure why I've joined this forum. My SO is in the application process for army officers. I've never been entirely happy about it (I worry about him far too much), but have been as supportive as I can be. It's his dream, and it wouldn't be fair for me to stand in the way or make him feel bad about it.
I suppose I just want someone in the know to tell me everything's going to be ok, and it's not as bad as you'd expect.
Also, how do you manage to hang on to a career (mine is pretty flexible) when attached to someone who has no control over where they go?

Everyone worries about their OH Felicity - welcome to RP by the way. It's only natural. You will find support on this forum. If he has set his heart on an army career you will cope with it - you are lucky having a flexible career.

    Hello there

Just a wee word on the career thing. It can be done but it's not necessarily easy. It depends what sort of job you have, if you're lucky it'll be one where you can transfer easily to pretty much any area. If you're unlucky like me you'll have a specialised job which limits where you can work. They are allowed to request specific postings so there is a tiny wee bit of flexibility. Myself and Mr K are currently working on a plan to get him within a couple of hours drive so we can have weekends together (I'm not sure I could handle having him around all the time just yet ).

    thanks for the welcome guys

can anyone give me a quick rundown on what it's like (practically as well as emotionally) being involved with the forces. i know i'm asking a lot, but i've cruised the various websites and it doesn't mean much to me as dispassionate facts.

    thanks again

Re: not sure what i'm doing really

    Hi and welcome,
Well, it is difficult being attached to someone in the army but it is bearable; i've been married for 10 years. I hate it when my husband is away but those times have not been too often, i think i must be quite lucky (he has only just come back from afghan recently though).
I have managed to keep my career going but have lost out on a couple of promototions due to postings.
    Good Luck
