RAF Cosford
Hi there, and apologies as I have similar threads in other sections but wanted to try put them in the right places!
My husband is rejoining to the MPGS, he has to pick 3 preferred locations and we are considering RAF Cosford as it is relatively close to family connections.
Anyone got some experience of living here or know anything about it? Ive looked at HIVE website and PatchPedia but its never the same as from the 'horses mouth'.
What are the MQ's like - size of rooms, gardens..
Clubs etc available - i have a 10 year old football mad son
would really appreciate it. Pretty hard decisions ahead as when he picks thats it, we are stuck with it..

Hi Kessy
Can't comment specifically about the base but my home town is round that neck of the woods. They have a few good schools around there, Albrighton and Shifnal would be the closest, Shifnal does have a good secondary school, Idsall, which is a sporting type place. Cosford has a train station which is pretty handy if you don't have a car. I know from passing it on the train that they do have a couple of astro turfs so I would like to think that had a kids club but can't say for sure. There is a local league for sure though FootskiTeams | Free Youth Football Soccer website | My Team: Cosford Harriers U14's. If you're looking at a map of Codsall, the officers houses are across the main road. There are some 'regular' streets too or whatever you call them too the back of the estate. There is also a housing estate between the bases and the garden centre. The road running through the middle isn't overly busy but is a commuter route, but with the aircraft noise, I'm sure you're used to it.
Sorry I can't help too much with specifics about the base but hope that helps a little bit at least.
Hx

Would you say its a nice neck of the woods to live then? We'd be moving from the Scottish highlands so a big decision and move!!

I was actually born at RAF Cosford and have recently "come back to my roots" by relocating to Shropshire to be with my Mum who is being treated at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
It is a nice neck of the woods in which to live, actually. Shropshire is a rural county of endless fields and some very charming market towns with olde worlde buildings and interesting little shops like Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth and Ludlow. Ludlow is becoming one of the top foodie destinations of the UK, with some very good restaurants and delis. The mountains, castles and beaches of Wales are an easy drive away, too. Very close to Cosford is the David Austin Rose Centre, if you're a bit of a gardener.
For shopping, Telford is close by and has a big shopping centre. For an even bigger choice, you can hop on the M54 which runs near to Cosford which links you into the motorway network and to Birmingham very quickly.
If your son likes football, he might like the fact that the Molineux, where Wolves play, is easy to get to. They're in the Premier League (at the moment!), so teams like Man U and Chelsea visit.
Where else are you thinking of, Kessy?

Hi Soleil, thanks for the info. Shropshire would be good for us as its relatively a short drive to see his Dad and son. We are also considering Shrivenham and Benson which would be alittle further away but also a pretty nice part of the world?

Some general info on PatchPedia Cosford - PatchPedia
When you get to Cosford, you may want to add some little bits and bobs to the PP article that you think are relevant. x
