What is Second Life?

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total of 7,066,676 people from around the globe.

From the moment you enter the World you'll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you've explored a bit, perhaps you'll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.


You'll also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow residents. Because residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other residents.

RnR Island is the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines centre in the online world of Second Life.

With an eye to the future of the military community website, the good / bad people at ARRSE decided to try an experiment with the latest internet wonderland - the virtual online world of Second Life and in early 2007 the very impressive although somewhat empty RnR island was available for the world's internet users to visit, walk around.. and hopefully build something useful or at least amusing. Which in due course they did (see the photos).

Yes indeed there is a get together on RnR Island @ 20:00, today is a good day to join as there will be quite a few people all in the one place able to help you out.

Do you have to be serving or just related/oh to a service personnel to go on RnR island?

I'll stand corrected but I think its open to anyone and everyone, including those totally unconnected. Secondlife is a whole other world anyone can go anywhere they want..I think...Legs? Red?

RnR Island is open to all. There are other places in SL that require you to be invited, but not our bit.

No coonection to the Forces, ARRSE, Rum Ration or Rear Party required

Every time I log on to it my pc freezes, I haven't got past that learning island doobry :cry:

It took me all day but I eventually got on, cheers for the clothing and spends from Beebs. Leather skirt and FMB's hmmmm! :glasses10:

Well signed up, ime all downloaded and have done the first tuition part but does anyone find that it keeps crashing. My computer is also very slow when i have it open. Any advice ... please....

Yes!

Close everthing you have open, go to the bottom right on the bar and exit everything you don't need to be using.

Initially avoid going into red (on the upper right hand of the SL screen) areas until you're used to waiting and such.

My PC's ancient and I manage.

There are a number of groups on RnR, basically a way to communicate via IM and a way to receive notecards containing Event information and announcements.

If you would like to join the group formed for Rearparty SL cleverly called Rearparty then please PM me stating your SL name and I will pass it onto the relevant folk on RnR so you can be added to that Group.
