You will be able to move into your Qtr's 3 months before your wedding date. I can't remember the name of the office but the UPO will be able to advise regarding this. Cornwall, so is he being drafted to good old Raleigh then? The Qtr's are just down the road from the base, so that's not a bad thing. They are simple though, furnished, semi furnished or non- furnished, get the lovely choice of red, blue or green furniture, don't ask lol

They are actually ok, not too big but not too small either and hte gardens are a good size too. You will need to put your name down on the waiting list though.

Sorry I couldn't help any further than this, maybe Rince would have a further insight then me, seeing as I have never been married

Torpoint is ok for a few bevvies, Wheelers on a Wednesday night is throbing, Karaoke but will be full of trainees also. Hop on the torpoint ferry and 5 minutes later you will be in devoport, a sort taxi ride and you are down the town, beaware though, Jester will look appealing after midnight BUT DO NOT FALL of it's charms!!!!

May ask how it is going in culdrose? Getting married in 6 weeks and are meant to be moving into officers' married quarters. We hear they are full from some people... and may have to find somewhere else to live. All a little confusing!

    Many thanks.

I've not lived in the married quarters at Culdrose, but a couple of my friends have and they were both really nice. The biggest down point is the blinking hills in Helston!!

I dunno about Culdrose, could tell you about Plymouth

Advice though, don't turn them down because you want to be somewhere your friends are............Naval Qtrs are fare and few these days and you may not get another slot for a while.

Cheers Josephine, I don't know anyone yet so will not be turning any accomodation down to be near them!

Kernowpuss, that is good to hear! You do hear horror stories in the press!

Any other advice will be gratefully received!

Dramateacher, If all the offical married quarters are full you should theoretically be offered a Substitute Services Families Accomodation (SSFA), which means they should find you a house and rent it out for you.
But knowing that Helston isn't that big a town I'm not sure how that would pan out.
You need to get your application for a quarter in and then give DHE a ring to find out the score.

Josephine, do you know where the officers quarters are in plymouth? We might be moving there soon from portsmouth and wanted to know which, if any, locations to avoid or to aim for.

    Re: Royal Navy Married Quarters

My husband and I are moving into a married quarter in Portsmouth in 4 weeks time,

Could anyone tell us where the officers quarters are in Portsmouth?

Where do we want to be? not want to be?
    What they are like?

Is there anything we should be doing before we move in? Can anyone give us hints and tips about moving in to make it easier.

Hi there screamingtart (great user name!).

Hubby and I are livers' out, so to speak, so whilst he's Pompey, we don't know the quality of quarters, I'm afraid.

Take a look at RP's very own Patchpedia for Portsmouth - follow the link from the Home Page. Or have a nose around the South East Hive entry for Portsmouth.

Happy to help with specifics on Portsmouth and its environs!

I think the officers quaters are up on Portsdown Hill, with a fantastic view of the city...the higher the rank, the higher the house!

Anywhere up there should be pretty nice... where you want to avaoid is Sommerstown (actually on Portsea Island) and Paulsgrove which is more to the west

Good luck with the move... I hope you enjoy it down here!

Yep. Pack your undies in a suitcase and take them with you. The last thing you want is to pop out for a coffee and return to find the removal men all wearing your knickers on their heads whilst they're loading your sofa into the back of the lorry. I speak from experience!

Great advice, and the sex toys! I meant to do this with my first move but the removal men arrived before I had had a chance to take my daughter to nursery. So I asked them to start downstairs whilst I got rid of my daughter, and came back to find that my bedroom had been completely packed!! I walked around red faced for the rest of the day knowing that they had found my stash!!!
