I know quite a few people who live in tidworth and bulford....never heard them say they liked it that much though!
I'm from just down the road, past the stones on the way to the cathedral!

    Re: Bulford/Tidworth

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me please. We are moving to Tidworth in april 07. I have been to a welfare meeting (which was a little vague to say the least) and now only have 5 days to pick which SFA estate to be housed on. We have a choice of Tidworth or Bulford.
Could anyone tell me what the married quarters are like and is there a lot of flats or is it mostly houses? Also what is the average rent like? We were told anywhere between £75 per month to £400.
We should be moving to a 3 bed quarter, i have 2 children of high school age and a child of pre-school age, she will be due to start primary in sept 07. I can drive so distance to schools & shops isn't too important.
Thanks in advance to any info you can give me.

Mathews Estate in Tidworth is all new build so will be top rent. As an example we pay around £300 with rent, garage charge and CILOCT.

Zouch Estate is ok too, all grade 2, two and three bed houses with few flats.

Steer clear of Bulford if you can.

    Re: Bulford/Tidworth

Hi Elsie, I had pretty much the same questions as ninian, as we are the same reg, I have 4 children (2,4,5&13) so will be needing a 4 bed, is Bulford really so bad? I would like one of the new builds but I am already worrying about rent etc as I have been spoilt living in germany where everything is so cheap!!!! Had a look at the schools in the area on the internet and they look ok, I don't drive at the mo but I am hoping to do my test at easter. Any advice would be fab because as ninian said we only have 5 days to decide 8O .

By the way welcome Ninian good to see you posting at last (she has been lurking for ages )

Bulford is truly nasty - avoid if possible.

As Elsie says, the new build in Tidworth is pretty good - but pricey - and loads of my mates like it there.

    Re: Bulford/Tidworth

If you need a 4 bed then you will be on the new Estate as Zouch is only 2 and 3 bed, Mathews is 3 and 4 beds.

As for rent, well you pay the same for a grade 2 quarter wherever you are whether it is Tidworth or Fally. Yes the new builds are grade 1 but they are really lovely quarters and are at the standard that we should all be aiming for.

If you can't drive then definitely stay away from Bulford as there are very limited amenities to walk to.

At least Tidworth has everything you need within walking distance including a choice of schools, 2 doctors surgeries, supermarkets, craft shop, dentist, vet - I could go on.

I live in Tidworth but work in Bulford and I can't stress how much people hate living here. A lot of the housing stock in Bulford is very run down whereas Tidworth has generally good housing across the estates.

Please PM me if you have any specific questions

    Hi Elsie,
Many thanks for all your help.
I have managed to get hold of a quarter pricing list and was surprised to learn that contrary to our welfare brief, quarter prices are the same in the UK as here in Germany. I have managed to also find some photos of the quarters in Tidworth on the internet. I will now fill out my forms requesting Tidworth, fingers crossed.

There are loads of employment opportunities here and in the surrounding areas.

I am the Employment Advisor for the Army Families Federation here in Bulford so you can contact me when you get here or have a look at our website http://www.army.mod.uk/aff/aff_new/b...feas/index.htm

We also run Training Centre which offers IT courses such as Clait, ECDL, WebDesign as well as Sage and Book-keeping.

One of my colleagues has asked me to say that she lived in Bulford for 2 years and was very happy here!
