    Portugal

When Mr Ames gets back from the sandpit we are hoping to go on holiday, somewhere cheap but warm. We are going around May time so I was thinking about Portugal. Has anyone been before? Can anyone make any recommendations?
Or if anyone has any other suggestions as to where we can go?

We dont want anything too expensive or too far away as we are going to South Africa at Christmas to see his family.

I have only been to Portugal once and it was May and quite frankly it rained so much that even the Welsh said it reminded them of home. Perhaps that just makes it appeal all the more? lols x

I didn't like Portugal - doesn't mean that you wouldn't of course! but I found it difficult to be in the lap of luxury with shanty towns outside the confines of the hotel complex. Worst poverty I have ever seen in Europe. Have you considered Cyprus? or Greece?

Portugal is off anyway since he decided to dump me. I'm off to Barbados to visit my cousin instead! Every cloud and that!

Thanks TLC, I only put it in the moan thread. He did it 7 weeks before he came home from afghan, I tried to talk him out of it or just leave the decision till he was home but he was adamant it was for the best. Now he's home he says he's made a mistake and wants me back but he's not the person I thought he was and I'm not going back x

Hmmm. I think I would be digging my heels in and packing for Barbados as well quite frankly. Although, not being nosy or patronising (but somehow achieving both), I would say that if this behaviour is completely out of character for him then I would worry. End of tour, newly-returned "flashes" of temper or behaviour are sometimes a bit of a release, or a sign of things not right with himself.

    Hugs.

It was a bit more complicated but it's about the way he deals with stress, he buries his head in the sand and doesn't listen to reason. His sister spoke to me and him at the time and implied he'd made rushed decisions when stressed before, he admits he delt with it wrong but I need someone who can support me when life gets stressful not bale out.
And he has no family in the uk, I think he's lonely now he is home so I think that is one of the reasons he wants me back but I'm not here to keep him amused while he is on leave.

I've got the rest of the boys keeping an eye on him though.

Thanks for the support and hugs xx
