    Knitting Madness

Gracious, what have I gotten myself into here? Friends of mine just got engaged, and they're big Harry Potter fans, so I says to myself I says, 'Self, you should knit them Hogwarts scarves'. Totally great idea, right?

Except for how I haven't knitted in about five years (I mostly crochet), AND my circular knitting needles are wayyyy too big so I'm having to do this on four double-ended needles. I've never knitted on double-ended needles. I'm about 15 rows in, no problems really, but I do feel like my hands have stopped listening to the control centre, if you get my drift.

Any advice from seasoned knitters? Or is it just a matter of letting myself get used to all the pointy ends?

As an aside, I think we should have a forum area for crafty people.

If I had a nearby Hobbycraft my credit card would have to be taken away from me. So I guess it's good that there isn't one nearby!
You'll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You'll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dextrous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.

Sad but true am a seasoned saddo knitter. Knitting a turkey at the moment! Don't ask.

If you're having real issues with the needles just use 2 and stick something on the ends. Rubber bands, corks etc. 4+ pointy sticks a pain unless you want to knit socks. If you get stuck youtube has mega links and you can repeat the link as often as you want.

Give us a shout if you want any help. Think your idea for a crafty forum good idea. Lets see what happen.

Other thing is as you crochet, why not crochet them a scarf so much piggin quicker? Lol

I'm trying to find some pretty embroidered shizz to add to a dress and some floaty voile material to layer underneath (to make it look longer as i'm tall-ish lol!) x

Really?? I only pay 99p for a ball of wool at my local shop and that makes a decent scarf with some left over. If I do a loose knit I usually have it finished withing a few hours too.

Im making a long hat (a hat which hangs off the back of the head) at the moment but its on 4mm needles so taking ages!!

I'm doing a tube scarf so that they won't curl. I've now resolved the issues with the needles; as I thought, they just took some getting used to. I was going to crochet but I really wanted that look you can only get with knitting.

Boots: That is CHEATING. But A* for trying to be helpful.

And I have to agree with the other young people: knitting is totally hip now.

 It's a pattern by Alan Dart that was in Simply Knitting magazine. Very cute complete with party blower and paper hat. Drunk too!!!

Think it's a shame the MODs feel knitting is for old farts. Hey ho.
Was working in my sister's shop today & three young "mums to be" (we are talking less than 20yrs old) came in asking about knitting classes 'coz they want to knit for their babies. I think it's really sweet and they are so keen to learn too.

Steady on! You'll have a Mod riot on your hands. One Bodger does not a brace of moderators make you know!!

Knitting just isn't for me. Sharp implements aren't a good idea in my house. And I still have visions of my mother furiously knitting with a frown on her face (incidentally, she's now stuck that way!) and forcing me to wear the fruits of her labours. For bloody years. If she made a jumper which just fit me when I was 4 I could still wear it when I was 15. It just kept sodding growing! A sky blue round necked jumper with lambs jumping across a knitted field isn't a good look when you're well into your teens!

:laughing5: I too had jumpers like that. That's why I knit for other people and not myself to make them suffer like I did! Does that make me a saddistic knitter? :laughing6:
