    Moving to Warminster

    Hi All

Me and oh have just found out that he's got his 1st posting to Warminster after he finnishes his phase 2 training but not sure how to go about getting things sorted for the mq?

The thing is he passes out on the 6th August and we get married 14th August then he has courses at least until the end of August so we looking at moving anytime after this but the thing is we're not even sure he's had his posting order through yet and he's away all this week on exercise so he cant even ask them to check?

I return back to work next month 21st July after my maternity leave and of course will have to sort out handing in my notice at work and sorting most of the stuff out while he's away with training.

Do any of you know where abouts we'll get our mq's or will it be where ever theres one free and what are the houses like down there and is there plenty of stuff to do on camp as we have a 7 month old daughter and i dont want to be stuck in the house all the time as that would really send me bonkers!

I lived in Warminster for 4 years -but in my own house not a MSQ, so can't tell you much about the housing. Warminster itself it a nice town, with some nice shops. Its handy for Salisbury and Bath - and good rail adn bus links if you don't drive. Contact the local HIVE and they will give you more info on Mums and tots groups etc. Hope you have a great posting - I enjoyed my time there x

Thanks Miss DF for the info.

Just a quick update as i've rung and spoken to Warminster Hic this morning as i needed to know what areas for the housing.

Pepper Avenue, Goodwin Close, Houldsworth Avenue & Firbank Crescent.

The houses don't look too bad from the outside and at least now i can get on with planning the wedding and the move and once Oh has his posting order, our housing application will be getting put in.

Don't expect 24 hour Tescos or anything like that. Warminster is definitely caught in a time warp but there is a rumour that Waitrose may be coming to town. Currently you have a choice of Lidl or Morrisons. There is a big Asda in Trowbridge (along with B and Q, Wickes, Halfords etc) which is about 20 mins away. Another 20 mins on the train and you are in Bath for mega shopping and the Bath Spa. Lots of history there too and a rather tasty rugby team Bristol is only an hour on the train too.

There are a couple of eateries around the area which have been recommended in the Alastair Sawday books. Not to mention you have Bishopstrow House for the posh nosh. There is also a spa there.

Pubs in town are much improved in recent times. When the regts used to change every couple of years there was alot of fighting. Now the current Regt is there permanently, things have calmed down significantly.

You have alot of takeaways but the best chinese/thai is Westbury, however, I have yet to eat there to confirm this. For Indian takeaway I would suggest a 15 min drive down the A36 to the Toran. Amazing food!

You also have Longleat on your doorstep so plenty of opportunity to get out and about on your bikes.

Thanks dizzy for the info as it really helps with the insight into the area.

So is your oh based their then or do you just live in the area?

It's actually a pretty safe area in Warminster itself. You need to experience JB's just so you know NEVER to go in there again. Trowbridge also has an Aldi but also has the worst one way system in the world!!! I have yet to investigate the joys of Frome.
