    Fitness Thread for Chunky Nora's

I realised over the weekend just how much weight I have put on over the last year and its not good I only have one pair of jeans that fit and they started life as my maternity jeans so that gives you an idea to the gravity of the situation I am facing

So anyhow, I was wondering if any RP members would like to get a fitness thread started to keep ourselves motivated? Quite frankly, I don't even know where to begin - do we have any fitness fanatics or fitness instructors who would be willing to pass on any tips?

So anyhow, this morning, I grabbed my old fitness kit (was it OK to wear it with Spanx control pants? ) and after dropping off the youngest, I went power walking for an hour. So far so good ...............

I've started exercising lately because I cannot stand how much weight I have put on. I have found power walking hasn't helped much, and I'm doing it for 3 miles! So have now started going to the gym for an hour a day in the hope that it kick starts my body into weight loss.

    Thank Goodness for this thread!

I am meant to be starting "fitness" this week- I am so fed up with being so unhealthy! But guess what!? Thats right I have flu!!

I am thinking about going tomorrow anyway as if I miss the first date I have set myself I will never go! I need a gym buddy to force me to go.

I also need to move out of home- my mums idea of healthy cooking has meant i have gone up 2 dress sizes since graduating uni!!

I endeavour to be fit and healthy - gym a lot, run a lot... still not at my ideal weight but better than i was in the past.

If you aren't used to exercising i would recommend start of small, and let your body get used to it. The more you do the faster your metabolism will become. And get into a routine!! Set yourself targets (even if it is just being able to jog for 10 mins)l and then build on it.

If you're thinking of joining a gym (my local authority one is about £30 a month) they should do you a free training plan. It's the only thing that got me exercising regularly because it gave me a proper structure to work to. It was also good for getting me to use weights which made a huge difference in tems of actually toning my body instead of just losing weight. Classes are also worth a try - stuff like body pump will tone you whereas aerobics will get you sweaty and shift weight. I have to say the main difference I noticed was that I just felt better in myself - sleeping better, calmer and generally a happier bunny all round.

I let things slide for a few months and have just joined a new gym. Had my induction at the weekend and I'm still in pain

The Shred. It is a fitness DVD. 30 mins each day and that bird will have you "shredded" in no time. The other thing I can recommend is running. Download couch to 5km to get you going. BUT and I mean BUT, you have to really want to do it otherwise you will do it for a few weeks and forget about it. Once you have been doing it regularly for a month it will become part of your life.

Re: Fitness Thread for Chunky Nora's

Thanks for the replies, I have started a pre-fitness week if you get my drift. Lots of walking and cycling just to get my blood pumping, boost my heart rate and wear in my new trainers

So my plan for this week is basically walk today, cycle tomorrow, walk Wednesday, cycle Thursday etc., Next week I want to try and power walk properly as today it was really just like a brisk walk.

My local fitness suite is part of the school so is unavailable during school hours, ditto the swimming pool. The private gym is £65 per month, so that is a complete non-starter for me.

God I neeeeeeeeeeed to tone up and loose a few pounds so I am definitely in!! Would love to join a gym but I know me and that basically means I throw money away every month ...

I walk the dog twice a day, not long walks as they are before and after work but about 20/30mins each time, we have a Wii Fit but I never use it as the only space I can is with it connected to the only tv and then that means H2B can't watch anything

Basically I NEED someone to kick my butt into doing SOMETHING to get healthier and feel better about myself, pretty please can someone kick me into joining a gym or suggesting a dvd I can stick on that I will actually do?!

I am really starting to regret wearing my Spanx knickers under my exercise gear this morning - I think I may have done myself a mischief !!

I am currently ( and have been for the past 18 months :$ ) studying to be a fitness instructor. When qualified I want to specialise in pre and post natal health and fitness.

That said I haven't done much of anything since finding out I was pregnant with D, poor show for someone who wants a career motivating others to keep fit.

I think the secret is to find something you enjoy and stick to it. Like Dizzybird said after a month you'll wonder why you never did it before.

My thing was variety. Different classes in body pump, boxersize, yoga, step, you name it. It stopped me from getting bored with doing the same thing.

I have a friend who spoke to me the other day who swears by Zumba, she absolutely loves it and looks forward to the classes.

I know the hardest part is getting up the motivation to go. Be it running, to the gym, to the swiming pool, but the best bit is the satisfied feeling when you've completed it. That and the toned thighs

I did karate as a kid. Loved it and have no idea why i quit really. The good thing about martial arts is that they are a discipline as well as an exercise so it changes your attitude and outlook to life at the same time as toning your figure!

I joined the gym on camp and had every intention of going three times a week but they decided to tell me you're not allowed to train alone. As i can only go when the kids are being looked after by Mr Tree he cant keep me company and no-one near me wants to do it so its back to the drawing board for me. more than slightly gutted. We do have a zumba class close by but as som eone else said my severe lack of rhythm puts me off that one!

you forgot to say that martial arts classes are usually full of rather attractive men which is FANTASTIC for motivation

I've just joined my local running club, might be worth looking in to.

I know from emailing the one I'm going to they usually offer a couch to 5k type program for beginner runners as well as the more 'advanced' groups who just go off and run 5-10 miles an evening.

I would love to go running because I know that that is how I lost a LOT of weight last time and kept it off, but I have a knee that doesn't agree with the training regime, so gym and Cross-Trainer it is. I have found the last couple of days that taking my ipod down and my daughter parked in the corner works wonders for an hour.

I started BMF (http://www.britmilfit.com) and I cannot recommend it enough. I used to go the gym & spinning classes etc but I've seen some real differences with BMF over the past 6 months. It does kill me and I'm on the Green/Red bib border so there's room for improvement. I wasn't actively looking to loose weight, but a lot of my size 10 stuff is too big now.

It may not be the easiest time of the year to start, but it IS good and you will see dramatic body/fitness changes, especially if you set yourself a goal of moving up (classes are divided into groups by ability).

Am sure there are some fellow BMFers here though!

How much they charge per week, or is it dependant on the region?

I tried joining a gym but got thrown out for perving the fellas!

Ok, I am really peed off. I have been doing a minimum of an hour and a qtr. Most days 2 hours in the gym and I am putting on weight, not taking it off. I am not eating unhealthily. Grrrr
