Thread: Risborough, Folkestone.

I'm new here, so firstly wanted to say hi

The husband has been posted to Folkestone, and do you think I can find anything about areas to live etc?! Housing preferences have been listed as Dover, Ashford & Hawkinge.

I am a midwife and plan on trying to work as soon as I have our daughters settled (aged 6 & 11)...anyone have any info on the hospitals in and around the area? Or even better, any other madwives out there who could give a heads up on nice units to work in?!

Any helpful info surrounding this posting would be really appreciated, even the bad!

As I said I'm new here, stumbled accross this forum (which I think is great by the way) by chance. I know I have the HIVE etc for info, but I appreciate info from those who have experienced it first hand.

Still finding my way I think the nearest maternity unit is Canterbury. Folkestone is a dirty old unloved town with no decent shops!!
Housing in Hawkinge is typical new build paper thin walls rabbit hutch rooms.

on the upside France is only 24miles away : )

Oh...sounds lovely! I'm leaving some lovely shopping on my door-step (boo), what about housing around Dover and Ashford? I've been given the heads up that Ashford is best for shops and, well, any form of life. I have visions of a dusty old seaside town run by a band of in-breds who ran all the locals out of town. And am I right in thinking that housing (apart from quarters at Risborough) are like rented by the army from private associations for us families, and not military quarters. And if thats right I take it we're dotted everywhere?

...and yes, the up-side is being a stones throw away from France. However was always on the bottom of my 'to go' list. No doubt I'll take advantage though

MMMM dont you just love it when you get a phone call saying your hubby has a posting order to folkstone and its for the 14th of march does anyone have any info on housing and primary schools and leisure centres /gyms that would help we are currently living in the very cold north east of england in north yorkshire we have 3 kids primary school age and i also work as a fitness instructor and would want to go back to work asap !!!! any info will be of help cos at the min me and hubbie in the dark and as usual the familes office are not being that helpful !!!

Depends on where they house you, some get Shornecliffe others get Hawkinge and most go to Ashford! Give the hive a call they are helpful. Folkestone is a dump!

I'm new too and also just found out we're headed to Folkestone this summer. Can anyone give me a heads up on what the officers quarters are like at Shorncliffe? Plus any other helpful info such as schools, social life (o God pleeease say there is a social life!) etc.?

Glad to hear no distinction of rank, my kind of place :-) The Hive has been brilliant at sending info through, just needed any insider info as they can't recommend. Have two water babies so keen to stay Shorncliffe way to be by the sea. Any tips v gratefully received!
Wot no social life? Then bootifull we may just need to make one! Where are you residing?
