Thread: Newbie in need of some advice please for the tidworth area

Hey I'm very new to this site I'm looking for some advice really I've been with my partner for 2 years and he asked me to marry him I of course said yes now he's based in tidworth and has been for years now I've been down to stay with him a few times on camp and I do actually like it there. We are going to get married and I'm going to be moving down there with him I'm from the north east so we are apart most of the time now and makes mire sense for me to move where he is after were married so
my question is how easy is it for jobs there and surrounding area and what is the army housing like in the area also I'm a bit nervous about making new friends so any advice from anyone I would be really grateful as I'm just researching my options at the moment. Thanks xxx

Hi Chick, welcome to RP and (in advance) welcome to Tidworth!

The housing in Tidders basically falls into to levels. "Adequate" and "not bad at all". There is, however, a shortage of quarters in Tidders itself, and you could end up in Shipton Bellinger ( a couple of miles away) Or as far as Andover (12-14 miles).

There is not much in Tidders by way of employment as far as I can see. A few jobs on camp (ranging from clerical to catering and cleaning). Tescos and the other few shops are sometimes recruiting as forces wives get posted out. Further out is Salisbury or Andover which are accessible by public transport.

As for friends, there are lots of us from RP living in Tidders. One day we'll actually manage to get together for a drink or 10. Just like any community, friends are there if you go out and find them.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I think we did go into Andover one night for a night out it was ok haha. As for jobs that would be my main concern I currently work for a bank so I have 6 years of that to go by but just worried I'll get down therw and struggle to get a job I do drive so I wouldn't mind traveling outside the area if needs be to be honest just a little confused on the job front do I wait till I'm down there or start before hand. Hahaha. Yeah your defo right about meeting new people I get along with almost any one so I'm hoping I do make some friends Thanks again xx
