    Lee on Solent housing?

    Hi all,
OH is in Australian Navy and is posted to Portsmouth for 2 yrs, so we're moving across in Jan. OH will be at collingwood first 6mths then the naval base in portsmouth.
We've been allocated a house in the new build area in Lee on Solent, but I can't find many first hand experiences of the area. Any thoughts? I'm also due our first bub in feb.

Hi and welcome, I can't help with the housing (we don't live on patch), but my OH is RN, so any other ways I can help, I will try

Not been down there myself but I have a couple of friends who are living in Lee while their husbands are on Killicks course. I was under the impression that the houses in Lee were 4 beds only but suppose that can't be right (unless the rules about housing are different if you're coming from overseas?). They look lovely though - very new, big kitchens, nice big gardens and plenty of storage. The area is nice as well - one friend finds it too quiet as she's used to the patch up here where everybody is in your business (ugh!) but the other loves it as she's been able to step back, survey the lay of the land and then be friends with people who she chooses! It's a tri-service patch as well from what I can gather.

Are you on Facebook? It's very useful for stuff like this as there are wags groups where you can get photos of the houses x

I thought they were all four beds too. I live just down the road from Lee and you've definitely got the better area for quarters. The area the quarters are Is called daeladus if that's any help.
It's right near the stony beach, a skate park, few shops and some nice little cafes.
There are a few 'secret'facebook groups if you want to pm me I can sort out getting you added to them.
Any other help I can give let me know, if I don't know myself there will be someone nearby who will.

Oh just read SP's post fully. It is tri-service officially but it's predominantly naval but up to now as an army wife I've not had any dramas with not being navy .

Just have to add that the houses look so nice, I'm considering borrowing an extra child if OH ever gets on course, just so I get to live there!

There's always quite a lot going on. I now here's at least 2 tots groups in lee and if you can drive there's one every weekday in Rowner and a with it without kids coffee morning on a Thursday at the community centre in Rowner.
There always seems to be ann summers, body shop, chocolate party things going on and they're usually fairly open to anyone. There is a military wives choir who practise at collingwood if that floats your boat.
Lee itself is a lovely area and I'm a bit in love with the crown carvery there!

Oh wow, lots of great and quick replies, thank you ladies! Lee sounds like the Bondi Beach of Pompy! Not quite, but thats where we're moving from so I'm sticking with it!
Its reassuring to hear that the opinion of the area and houses is good. I was most worried about being in a bad area, and not having access to 'support networks' that might exist on the Southsea side.
Yeah they do all appear to be 4 bed new houses in that patch. Not totally sure of how the UK housing entitlements work but these fit in our classification apparently. I was surprised too to be in such a large place
see you all in a few weeks
