    Faceache...I mean, Facebook

Due to calls of interest, I'm curious as to what people would like to see on a Rear Party Facebook page.

My number 1 concern is, as always, that user names/real names/ PerSec isn't compromised, and will make it so utterly clear that it will be painful to ignore

i.e. "Please do NOT use your real names on the actual Rear Party forum

What would YOU, as Rear Party users, like to see on a Rear Party page?

    Answers below, I thank you

Hmmmmm, I don't know, although I spend a fair amount of time logged in to Fookbase, I don't actually DO an awful lot. However I think it would be a great platform to get people to join RP. Could post links to current forum discussions, then people would sign up to chime in. Perhaps! Other than that I'm afraid I'm not hot on using the ideas part of my brain these days! (Or in fact any other part that doesn't consist of feeding, napping and cleaning milky vom )

I'm quite partial to my anonymity so I don't tend to join groups etc on Facebook (and have a morbid fear of forwarding on all the inane drivel that's spewed out over the damn thing) but I wouldn't mind advertising RP through it to be honest.

    Re: Faceache...I mean, Facebook

I honestly don't know that a RP facebook page would necessarily be a good thing, one of the things I like about this site is the emphasis on persec - other forces partners sites simply don't seem aware of the concept which is fine and wonderful until someone realises that their spouting rubbish has got back to their partners boss/their partner/the other wives on the patch and all hell breaks loose.....

But I do think that it would be good for the site to be more widely advertised as the membership can seem somewhat 'stale' at times and there are new members around the times of deployments and training starting but many don't seem to stay/post often. So as Sammi said prehaps links to dicussions, info stickies and the like would be useful, but the only way to make it in anyway secure would be a closed group which would be a nightmare to administer I suspect.
Heaven wont have me, hell is scared I'll take over. Time for the pub!

On the move this weekend. Not sure yet where I'm going or when I'll get there.....hope theres enough vodka in the car.

What about just making the group to advertise the site as a whole. No need to link to threads, make sure the RP web address is visible and let the website do the talking for itself?

I am on several FB groups for different sites and many of them post links to threads that have been posted or updated.

    http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Totz2teens/50506358090?ref=ts

this one just updates competitions, another only makes new wall posts if there is someone famous doing a Q&A section on the site.

Persec does not have to be compromised.

    Re: Faceache...I mean, Facebook

    Completely agree, people.

I have started a page (not "live" yet) that will allow people to be "Fans" of Rear Party on Facebook, without actually having to join in/give away their PerSec details. I'm still playing around with it as I have a million and one things to do this week but it's definitely looking like a "go-er".

See, this is why I prefer Twitter over Facebook. Sending link updates to topics and posts is an easier way of letting people know what's going on - and as a "follower" on Twitter, no one has a clue who is a member of this site or not. There's no reason for PerSec to be compromised.

I know that scuba_angel had concerns over her privacy on Twitter but you can literally register your user name/ real name as just about anything. I gave it a shot, set up a dummy e-mail address and logged in and bingo.

Hope no one follows THAT name though - could attract all sorts of freaks and wierdos.

    Oh. You're already here

Why can't we have an 'invitation only' group the same as ARRSE? Not sure, but all content is then private I suspect.

If RPers want to join they PM admin on here and they will get an invite. If they don't want to join that's fine as well.

Yell if I am completely missing the point (having shit day) :-(

Only thing I see wrong with that, is, that if people want to chat to each other - on threads and stuff - on a Facebook page, then it'd be the same as doing it on here?

Maybe a "fan" page would be better? I know I wouldn't join on a Facebook page because I hate all the crap that comes with them. Each to their own , though.

That might work but the ARRSE group doesn't really have anything going on - it just sort of exists if that makes sense?

A fan page might be the way forward - it would need the admin to post semi regularly though to drag it back in to the members minds - prehaps back to the twitter idea, links to busy threads?

Oh, if that is the case with the ARRSE pages then it has to be whatever option is the least work/least security issues. Happy to volunteer to do the FB Admin if that is of any use. I have six months at home ahead of me so if I can be doing something of use to RP then I am happy to help.

    I'm not a facebook user,

but if nothing happens on these pages, and they're invite only..... doesn't that rather defeat the object of raising awareness of the site..........?

edited because I don't know the difference between they're and their!

you sure you didn't "edit it" because you had to Google what Facebook was and how to type?

    That's the idea.

No one has to know who you are on RP, that's up to the person to post those details themselves. I see no PERSEC issue, as long as the people in question don;t have their fb profile on public display and not set to private.

    No big deal

I'm with Josephine on this one. Your real name on a facebook fan page gives no clue as to who you are on RP, unless like me you were too dull to think of a witty moniker, so just used your own name.

I have tried to change my RP user name BTW admin bods, but it hasn't taken yet.... hint hint
