Re: Rosyth??
Rosyth itself is a fairly small place but has the usual amenities. If I'm not mistaken , the married quarters are about a 15 minute or so walk to the nearest shops/Co-Op etc.
Ref. armed forces life, I can't help you much for Rosyth - but the area itself? It's got fairly decent bus routes to Dunfermline, Edinburgh etc. There are a couple of big primary schools and I think there's at least 2 high schools around.
It's definitely not the most exciting place on the earth and the closest place for half-decent shopping is Dunfermline. You've a choice of trains and buses to get there (it'd be 1 stop on the train, I think). I'm utterly biased by saying I think Dunfermline is a hole but I was born there so I'm allowed
Edinburgh is really easy to get to from Rosyth on both bus and train (as you said you don't drive) and is much MUCH nicer than either place. I would seriously consider learning to drive as it's easier to get around and there's some lovely places to visit not far up the coast etc. , about 20-30 minutes away, but public transport is always a hassle and being Scotland, infrequent at the times you'd probably want to get out and about.
PM me if there's anything specific you'd like to know and I'll see if I can help!
