Help on my posting to Belfast

    Morning Guys,

I have had a married quarter in catterick for four years now, my hubby has just been given a posting to Belfast, im a little nervous about the move as i have never done it before.

My little boy is due to start school in september and i dont know how to get the schools names or how to go about putting his name down.

Any info for my first move and Belfast would be great!

    thank you in advance

    Rachel x

    Welcome to RP!

Have a look here. Get in touch with the HIVE for your barracks and they'll give you the low down.

I've never lived in NI, but I spent a bit of time in Lisburn a while ago and would have loved a posting there. OH had different ideas!

Belfast is fab for shopping! no idea about SFA in Belfast but Lisburn and Holywood have some "nice" areas.
School years are a wee bit different over in't Norn Iron, check with the HIVE.

    Good luck!

Where abouts in Belfast are you going to be? Hollywood and Lisburn are all in the greater Belfast area as too is Aldergrove to a lesser degree - lm not sure where you would be posted in Belfast.

Ive lived here like forever - born and bred so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. I dont personally have kids but do have a step son he attends Harmony Hill in Lisburn and the school has been fantastic for him - first school where he has settled into and made progress. Head master is a Mr Greer and there are quite a few army kids at the school so they will be able to steer you right

Ive got my first move to Aldershot in exactly 8 weeks and l was nervous to begin with but now l just want to be there and get on with it (we are so organised whilst not packed have charity shopped, car booted and dumped just about as much as we can just waiting on the packers to come in so l can get on with cleaning the house out!). Northern Ireland is a great wee place, really on the up especially Belfast - great shopping, night life etc on par with any major UK city. Folk are friendly and helpful. Im sure you will really enjoy it over here.

When are you moving - will you get a chance to come over on a recce before you actually move? We did that recently and visited Aldershot we had the address of our new MQ and were able to take a nosy through the windows (it was empty!) and it really helped settle my mind and l can now envisage where things are, OH knew Aldershot pretty well so it wasnt such a big deal for him!

If you have anything specific just give me a shout.

Belfast is a lovely place with a lot of history.
Yes it has had it's problems but most of the locals seemed frieldly enough to me, although a few of my friends had some issues while on leave there... Any updates on this?

    All going ok?
