    Masquerade Dress

So, our Christmas ball is Masquerade, what the hell do I wear? Its got to be a full length dress but I want to wow a little bit, having lost lots of weight since the last ball!!!

    WOOHOO!!! What an exciting theme!

Do you have a Hobbycraft near you? They have loads of plain masks that you decorate yourself - they look as though they'd be really easy to do with some paint/glitter/feathers!!

Go all out with a full on ballgown!!

How do you feel about a gothic style? they do some amazing dresses that offer the wow factor and would work well with a mask. Found this website that has some stuff I want to get the credit card out for!!!

Buy separates- get a corset in a lovely silk or satin material, perhaps a brocade or flocked pattern in a nice jewel tone like wine-red or emerald or sapphire. And then get a floor length silk or satin-type skirt. it's formal, it looks FANTASTIC with a mask and an up-do, it shows off the new body while holding any loose skin firmly in place, it will hold you in perfect posture all night... the benefits are endless. And you can wear the corset with jeans or a mini skirt for nights out, too.

Have to agree with Mrs A about a corset - makes everyone look fantastic, makes your OH go mad and can be worn again and again. It's also very forgiving if your weight tends to fluctuate slightly over time, since you can lace it tighter or looser, so it'll still fit in five years' time and you can buy different skirts for it over the years. Or you can go mental like me and just buy lots of corsets

I can really recommend Corsets UK | Corset Top | Black Corsets | Underbust Corset - lots of special offers all the time (3 for 2 at the mo) and excellent service, and absolutely no quibble about returns, ever.

Ooh I like the corset and skirt idea. I've already got a gorgeous black corset, I'll just find a lovely skirt to go with it.

Put it on loosely, position it, do up the front clips, then just pull the 2 long parts of the lacing, tie lightly and then tighten it to your required level, just remember - double bow, double bow, double bow..... in case people think it's fun to loosen you off!

Used to love my corset, thoroughly recommend Vollers, who make the ones sold by Rigby and Peller. Also recommend going on ebay and finding a long skirt by Coast, they normally go for about a fiver as they are not in fashion, but were extremely popular two or three years ago. Vollers corsets are often for sale on ebay......

Or get a hubby/a friend/mother to do it for you. I can't do it tight enough by myself.

The trick I find to doing it tight enough, is to do it as tight as I can and secure with a bow, then 10 mins later tighten it by pulling the cords in the area I want it tighter, working my way down and then doing the bow again, sometimes I've repeated this a few times, but it seems to work, especially if you are trying to surprise someone with it.

OH may fall off his chair, but it won't be laughter, promise! Corsets DO SOMETHING for a woman's curves, and I have yet to meet a man who's immune... Hell, even GAY men seem to love them!

thirded. A proper corset in black silk (well, feaux silk!) has been all I've needed for several fancy dress costumes, as well as nights out and a formal do. The first time I put it on the OH's eyes popped out of his head! team it with a denim mini skirt and some kick-ass boots (docs to pirates to stilettos, they all work!) and you have the hottest look in the club. Just be aware that a real corset will restrict your flexibility at the waist. You can still sit and bend and breathe, but belly dancing would be difficult.

    In my experience, obviously.
