    Birthday Present

Well, the hubby has asked what I would like for a birthday present. This is always a nightmare for me because I never know what to say. Generally I prefer to get the kids and small things for me and hubby, but we have some spare cash (up to £250) and I need a new phone.

I currently have a really crappy ancient brick that you can't even get on the internet with.

I am looking at the Blackberry Curve 9300. Can anyone recommend me any other options for comparison. No touchscreen though. I HATE touchscreen.

    Me xx

I am going to have to pass on this- as pretty much anyone who has been on a meet can testify my phone is one of the oldest still in use!
All the cool kids have a signature but I have nothing witty or profound to say.

    I sell these lovely items.

9300 is a good choice, not much in that price range with a keypad as opposed to touch screen.
Although that might just be the range I sell.
Only one that I can think of is the HTC Cha Cha. Android operating system and qwerty keypad. HTC in my opinion make good quality handsets.

Although my experience of phones is that they are as unreliable as each other!

I have had the 9300 Curve, it was a really good phone but i have to say that i love the Blackberry Bold. I had a HTC a few years ago and didnt like it but i know that as always the phones get better with age!!! It is a personal preference and you wouldnt really know what you prefer till you have held them and seen the differences. Im a Blackberry girl through and through. Especially with all the Blackberry messaging i do, its free and great way to save on the texts :-)

I have recently upgraded my phone and got a Samsung Galaxy S2, I have to say I find it pretty amazing, it's quite large for a handset but the screen is really impressive and it's a lovely phone, easily the best I have owned. It works on Android and is very fast and very easy to use.

I recently got a Blackberry Torch to replace my ancient Nokia brick. I had similar misgivings about touchscreens, so I liked the fact that it has a qwerty keyboard as well (that said, I think I've been converted to a touchscreen fan in the past few weeks). Mostly I chose it over the Curve because it has a much bigger screen, which is useful for reading longer emails and actually being able to make out faces in a group photo (but maybe I'm just getting old and blind ). Also, I work in a high school and didn't want the same phone as ALL my kids (from the youngest to the oldest, they ALL have a Curve).

So many of my friends have Blackberries as well so the free BBM messaging is great - and it's free even for all my friends overseas! Big moneysaver on that front.

Coming from old-brick-land, It *was* a massive learning curve and I spent a good few weeks feeling like a bit of an idiot, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. Definitely a Blackberry fan now

Bold 9780 and Curve 9300 will do the same thing for emails, BBM. The Bold has a better camera and the Internet/social networking is a better experience, finally for me the build quality, the Bold just feels better.

There is a new Bold due out soon, so prices for 9780 might drop.

I got BB for work, iPhone for personal although I am really tempted by a HTC Sensation.

Gonzo in my personal experience then i would say yes the Bold is definitely much better than the Curve. As Spanner said the build is much better on the Bold and it feels better when holding it. The camera on the Bold is really good. The apps are getting better on the BB. I have a lot of friends recently that have gone from the iPhone to a BB or HTC so it is definitely a personal choice

The Blackberry Bold 9780 smartphone has a large, hi-res screen that displays over 65,000 colors; creating a vivid viewing experience for all your photos, videos, files and websites. Access what's important with trackpad navigation based on how laptops are designed. Glide your finger over the trackpad to scroll through menus and icons. A slight press and click lets you select an item to navigate where you want to go. Enjoy music, videos, photos and documents in great color and sound. Easily sync data and audio files from your desktop to the Blackberry Bold 9780, and get up to 35 hours of music playback time. Enhance the 256 MB of on-board flash memory by easily inserting a microSD card. Create extra room for emails, messages, apps, multimedia files, documents and all the other important things that you want to take with you. Along with a 5 MP camera, the Blackberry Bold 9780 smartphone features video camera functionality. Record and view videos on the hi-res screen, and share them through email, text messages or social networking sites. Mi-speed 3G network connectivity lets you browse the web or view email attachments faster. While Wi-Fi support enables your Blackberry Bold 9780 smartphone to access available hotspots
