    Gifts for passing out?

My OH passes out from basic training next week and I was just wondering if people usually buy gifts for that type of thing?

I know his sisters bought him something, but I was going to get him a congratulations card and thats it.. I didnt know people bought gifts for passing out parades because its going to be the first one ive ever been to!

What kind of thing should I buy for him?

Sorry I can't help with this one as Mr D had already been in a few years when I met him. Although he gets in a real sulk if I forget to make a cake for his "army birthday" but then again Mr D is rather strange so I'm not sure you should use him as an example.

    Rari,

I'm guessing as you have just done your A levels your on a budget, what about a mug with his cap badge on it so he can use it in his room or at work depending on what he is going to be doing! Badges On Mugs

    Hi Rari,

I didn't get my OH a gift for passing out or a card, oops :-/ but I got him a gift when he first joined the Navy and set off to Raleigh. I got him a calendar (which you can't really get mid year) but it was full of pics of us and of his family and friends and I wrote in all the important dates he had to remember i.e. my birthday :-D. Anyway I got it from photobox and they have loads of little gift ideas and are all reasonably priced.

I was gonna get my OH a nice wallet or something, but money's a little tight so it may have to be an IOU? I just guilt him into thinking of me coming to his pass out as a gift haha!

there used to be a guy on arrse who did silver plated bullets with your other half's name engraved on it, made into a keyring. The idea being if he had the bullet with his name on it, he had less chance of being hit by it!! try googling 7.62.com

No idea about passing out gifts, Mr S was already in, he does though go on about his RAF birthday which I think is the day he joined.

Oh bugger, I hadn't even thought of that. My man might get a new wallet, as he needs one. All the better for spending money on me with What with me being a student and all that's about all my budget will stretch to! U can be certain he isn't getting the £800 Tag Heuer watch he's been hinting at anyway....

I never got my husband a present when he passed out. I just didn't even think - I am not sure that many other OH's/family members that were there got anything for any of the other lads either. Maybe it is the done thing, and we were all just a miserable bunch ha

I bought a "Baldrick's Bullet" from 7.62.com for my son when he passed out. He loves it. For those who don't get the reference to Baldrick's Bullet, here is what it is all about:

Get him a camera and take some photos of the day with it while you are there and get yourself a decent photgraph album and make him send back some decent photos back once he's away on tour.

I didn't get organised quick enough to get mine his wallet. I couldn't find a card anywhere that was marine themed that I thought he'd like so I copied and saved an image of a green beret with the cap badge then moonpig'd it with a few personal words and he loved it. Also bought him a bottle of champers.
Some families gave gifts while we were there but we knew the OH would be mortified so saved it for dinner afterwards.
I think cufflinks are a great idea
