    ideas please

Ok so a lovely neighbour and soon to be firm friend of mine gave me an absolutely gorgeous dining table today. It's black metal with a glass top and makes my dining room look almost posh haha. So my problem is I now need placemats to go on it. And i need my living room to match up to the dining room.

So I'm looking for two average sized toy boxes one suitable for a 5 year old one suitable for a 1 year old and 4/6 placemats and coasters. I have to admit the budget is tight so the cheaper the better (i know I'm stingy but i want a holiday and a new car this year!)

I did find this in argos Buy Thomas and Friends Toy Storage and Seat Box at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Children's storage and toy boxes.
and theres another but ben 10 so that would be more age appropriate for the oldest. My problem is I'm absolutely pants when it comes to figuring out the actual size of things and how practical they are. I'm told that it's basically a ruler length up down and across which doesn't seem all the big to me but I don't know!

i know you guys can drag up some of the best bargains known to man and most of you have awesome taste so I thoguht i'd come to the most qualified shoppers I know for help!

I would not buy character ones as they will grow out of them within a couple of years. I would get some sea grass or wicker ones from IKEA, that way you can move them around the house from one room to another. There were a load on ebay last week going for peanuts.

Matalan used to sell a set of three trunks in either neutral or white, all of them were really good sizes and they look fab stacked up.

Hmm you might be onto something. I guess I was thinking toy box must be kiddified but I've just found one in IKEA that's under a tenner and goes with the colour scheme of my living room! The kids probably won't care if its got a character on as long as they can get their toys out of it and I get to have an adult living room once they are in bed. Good call Toots thanks

If you want characters you can just sticker them on, that way when they get bored of them you can just un- sticker them.

and if you need a lift to Ikea to get these boxes just give me a shout (you're really not that far away!!)
I loves an excuse to wander around Ikea and buy things I don't really need!!!

We've got these in our kids playroom and they're great

IKEA | Storage furniture | Toy storage | TROFAST | Frame

and you can get coloured boxes - and fit loads of toys in!! We've also got a couple of the tall ones to go with it.
