Childhood dog was a pedigree American Cocker Spaniel, beautiful family dog that everyone adored when he went over the rainbow we got a golden retriever he bit my Dad he got sent to doggy heaven!

I have my Chas part Staffy, part beagle part whatever was in the street at the time, he's a rescue dog and he is fantastic he costs me a fortune in vets bills but love that pooch!
We had a Yorkie Terrier for a few months she was feckin awful, snappy little cow she got sent to live with an elderly couple.

brutus hehe what a cute name. I should clarify when I said yappy dogs, I didn't mean barking as such. 'woof' is absolutely fine, 'arf' not so much. You know the little dogs that when they bark their entire body lifts a foot off the floor, that's what I meant by yappy dogs.

    How about a beagal?

Brutus was so named because he was a big dog on the Inside!

I know the yappy dogs you speak of. When I was fostering we cared for a few Pomeranians, and dear god never again! I also knew a Yorkshire terrier like that. Have you considered the West Highland or Cairn terrier? Cairns are lovely.

I think it's got to feel right and you have to feel ready otherwise you won't be able to give the new dog the amount of love it deserves because you'll still be grieving for the last. I know our collie didn't die but I still feel like we lost her in some way and it's taken me just over two years to feel like I would even consider getting another.

Don't rush it, just wait until it feels right.

So having read Armylady's post in moans a Husky is a no go! How is the little one doing now? I know Dizzy was bit when she was younger and has had trouble re-adjusting herself to dogs, she might be able to give you a bit of help to help get her more comfortable with your dog again.

Thanks S_T she is doing ok still really shaken but alseep in my bed so i can keep an eye on her, i'm still in shock she has played with this husky before and nothing has ever happen i'm just glad my friends OH came home when he did coz we couldn't get the husky to release it's grip on her arm.

I'm going to see how she goes with our puppy over the next couple of days up untill now she loved her. And really don't want her having a fear of dogs. But if she doesn't i may need to ask some of you lovely ladies for advise x

I have a Welsh Terrier who, for some reason, seems to have 'knack me' written on her forehead! She's wary of bigger dogs but it hasn't worried her too much and once she knows they're friendly she's fine.

we are going to visit a rescue dog tomorrow! The dog is nothing like what I said we were looking for!

We clicked on a dog that is GSDXRottie. We were expecting to see a huge slobbery monster staring back at us. Actually he's beautiful. Ridiculously so. He was a hand in rather than a stray so a lot more is known about him. He's lived with other dogs cats and kids before and despite being large walks like a dream on the lead. He's 3 and a half so almost the same age as our lab.

We're visiting tomorrow mainly because big tree is staying at his aunties for the weekend so if for whatever reason he's not right for us big tree won't be disappointed.

    I am strangely nervous!

Neither of our reprobates are what we were looking for - (we went out for a lab and a beagle and we've got a Ridgeback/dalmation X and a Greyhound!) and they are just the most wonderful dogs. It's the owner who makes the dog and I know this big boy (lovely X - he'll be as smart as a tack) would find a fabulously loving home with you. I'm crossing my fingers. Keep us posted!

I grew up with a gorgeous border terrier cross. She's very loyal and is fantastic for security as she hears everything and alerts us to intruders. She's a little yappy around children, but I think that's due to her early experiences rather than a breed fault (she was a rescue.) The massive plus point with terriers is that they live forever so you don't get the pet-dying-grief quite so often! She's 15 and is deffo good for another 3-4 years if not longer.

She's quite cuddly, so will come and sit on your lap from time to time and she travels well (as she's so small!) Also doesn't need much walking as she tends to take herself off from time to time (she has a dog flap which she has learned to use.)

Just in the car on the way back from meeting him.

He is truly beautiful. A complete gentle giant. The only attention he paid to little tree was to lick him while wagging his tail furiously. Pulled slightly but bear in mind this is a big dog spending most of his day in kennels and as soon as you say his name he corrects himself instantly.

Mr trees feelings about him were written all over his face so we're heading off for some lunch then going back with our dog to introduce them and see how that goes.

    Two very disappointed trees.

Dodge (the rescue dog) was fabulous and lovely but my dog decided he would get an attitude problem. Wasn't happy with dodge's presence at all and was barking and growling at him.

Its massively out of character for my dog we weren't even sure he knew how to bark he does it so rarely! He's also only ever wanted to play with other dogs he's met.

We don't know if it was a personality clash or the fact that they are both male and my dog is still complete.

We're going to have to do some serious thinking now but no matter what my dog has just earned himself a trip to the vet to cut the supply of testosterone to his ego!

Tree it could also be because your boy was picking up on your nerves and tension, don't mean it nastily but we all know how sensitive our doglets are!

Either way a trip to the vets is a good idea, no risk of testicular cancer then! Maybe see how an introduction goes in the future once he has been done?
