Hi and welcome
Am I to presume your husband is either RN or RM with a Devonport posting?
First move into quarters usually means no allowances or help with removals but there are exceptions as we are discovering. Best thing to do is send hubby to have a word with the writers in the cash office and see what they say x

Get him to speak to them - I don't understand why but it looks like we fall into the exception category and it's our first move. I know of someone else who got help too but then another couple haven't got it.

Hi squirrel_pigeon. If you dont mind me asking why do you fall into the exception category?

I don't know why - they've explained it to my OH but I've not been able to speak to him properly this weekend. He only got told on Thursday x

Ok. Im just abit worried about the cost because of it being 350 miles away with 2 children under 5 and 1 of them with special needs. Did u apply for help with moving costs or did ur oh talk to someone? x

He's done it all. Search for the thread Operation Get Squirrel Pigeon moved. I had some brilliant advice on there and it will probably point you in the right direction x

I would suggest if he's training then maybe start saving whatever you can towards the cost of removals just in case you don't fall into the exception catergory.
Our first move was about 250 miles (with child and dog in tow) and we managed it out of our own pocket. We had to sacrifice some of our furniture but it was only a minor sacrifice for what was a fairly hassle free move."Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion"

Hi special tree. Yeah wer saving up just in case. But I dont understand what the exceptions category is? Do you know? We will prob leave some furniture behind. I just like to know what to except. If we could apply for help with moving costs obv wud be a great help. But just dont understand what an exception is ? x

Exception catergory is on a case by case basis, could be hardship, educational, social services etc etc.

I think I might have confused you with the way I phrased it. There's no exceptions category but it seems that there are exceptions to the normal rule that first move and last move are at your own cost. As I said, best thing to do is get your husband to have a word with the cash office and see what they say - they won't be able to give him a definite answer until he has his assignment order but they will be able to have a chat with him and go through the options. Have a read through the thread I linked you to as well. With you saying about one of your kids having special needs, welfare might be a port of call too.

No worries
We move 250 miles in less than a month now and you can see by the other thread what an absolute panic I was in at that point. I'm still not exactly calm about it and it's still not 100% that we are getting the help (I've learnt over the last 14 months to not believe anything the Navy say til its happened) but at least thanks to the advice on here I have a definite plan B and was pointed in the right direction to get plan A underway lol x
