    Hi and welcome to RP.

No experience personally of living down there but I'm sure someone will come along soon who can help

Have you been to have a look round? I was down there last month for OHs passing out from Sultan and it didn't look too bad, but then I don't know where you're moving from. It could be that anywhere looks good to me

Well I have no idea on the area or road, so take my comments for what they are.... random checks on the internet.

The nearest school to Shackleton Road is rated a 2 so a good school.. generally, when I've been assessing areas I don't know, I've gone for the Ofsted school report

Schools that rate 2, (only seen one with a 1), even if the area is a little run down, the cars tend to be well looked after, the parents seem to care more and make the best of what they've got.. hard to explain, but you don't have to live in a rich area for it to be nice...

Ofsted | Grange Infant School for the report

The Google maps around that area looks like decent houses, so that's my 2 pennies, the best bet is to drive there and find a friendly looking house and chat, my OH's quarters seems to be in a very friendly area... so I know he'd be happy to talk to someone if they were moving into the road.

    And welcome to the forum.
Nothing to see here, move on by....

Rowner isn't really Portsmouth, it's Gosport (in important distinction to those living in Portsmouth), the fastest route into Pompey is via the Gosport ferry, it takes literally under 5 minutes (after the last ferry home there used to be a fishing boat that did the crossing until the wee small hours but not sure if he's still going). Gosport gets a huge amount of bad press and some of it is deserved but as is the same anywhere there are some very pretty parts, I live in Pompey but have quite a lot of friends in Gosport and they seem perfectly happy with it! Good luck
