I think that my brain is going to explode - moving abroad....

    Hey there

Is there one port of call where I can get all of the information that I need?

We are off to BATUS (from Wattisham), and I am not really understanding the logistics of how things work.

Stuff is going to Canada next month

Then in April other stuff goes into storage and we depart and our final bits follow us to Canada - fine I am understanding this so far.

What happens when the house is empty and waiting to be cleaned - where do we stay? And how is this organised? How do we get to the airport? We have already sold my car and just have hubbys, that is going to his sister, can we claim for a hire car?

Sorry it is so long, thanks Wriggley xx

If you have a Welfare Office give them a ring or go in and see them. If no Welfare find an AGC type in camp, if no camp call up Glasgow and ask them what to do.

You should be able to claim nights in hotels before and after flights, apply for disturbance allowance and remember to keep all receipts for food, petrol etc etc.

You can stay in a hotel until your flight but only a certain number of nights so check that out. You're driven straight to Suffield from Calgary unless the weathers pants when they stick you in the Delta opposite the airport. All paid for. You're entitled to a hire car to get to the airport so that's not a worry.

Talking of cars - make sure you get a confirmation of your no claims from your UK insurer otherwise you'll be starting from scratch and it's not cheap out there. Keep hold of that letter for when you return because not all UK insurers accept overseas no claims.

WO was about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Basically said that I should not be calling him and that DH should deal with all of this - even though he is away on courses and working nights for the next month. So I can't sort anything and am no further along - so annoying.

What is it you need help with? You should have received a comprehensive pack on moving overseas and they have a help line if you don't understand anything. They're not that sympathetic when you call mind you. Something to do with them having sent you all the info already. Whatever you need to know about BATUS you can read the links provided on patchpedia or ask and I'll try to help.

And remember that they won't issue flight tickets until BATUS call you forward and that can be very very last minute. That's the usual gripe.

I feel your pain. 1st move we did was under a welfare officer who wouldn't deal with wives. totally defeats the object! Ring AWS and see if they can give you the info you need maybe?

The WO is there for genuine welfare issues and not to help out wives with moves. Or maybe that's changed in recent years. I can honestly say that the easiest move for me was UK to BATUS. Fill out a couple of forms and see the quack and you're off. No need to even request a quarter. Its fool proof and needs just about no husband input bar him organizing the hire car and hotel which he can do from wherever he is.

I don't know if its changed at all but the staffy here told me that his role is a signposting service. As in they will direct you to who you need to be speaking to but perhaps that's just here?

Perhaps he'd already done the signposting? Seriously, when you're posted to BATUS it's pretty much all done for you all you need to do is read the information pack that lands on your doorstep and follow the instructions.

That sounds like my kinda posting!

OP if you've got the pack maybe just have a re-read take a deep breath and let it happen?
