    Transit insurance

I have just discovered that my home insurance doesnt cover our belongings in transit. We can't use removals unless we have insurance. Anyone know of any good companies who will do transit insurance at a decent price?

Do the removal company not offer insurance?
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok. They know me here.

We had to go with Forces Financial when we moved because they were reasonable and covered transit. Excess was £250 minimum though because I had been insured through someone else though.

They just told us we had to prove we had it and send the proof to them. Might give them a ring and see whats on offer,

Gonz so far i've found that More than cover removals in their home insurance policy. It will be about £90 or £11 a month but obviously that will give me house insurance too so I'm considering swapping house insurance policies to them. I dunno, I'm ok at this kind of thing usually but I fear the potential to be ripped off here because I've no idea what a fair price for transit insurance is.

We're with Direct Line and they covered us for transit between SFA. Never had to show anything to removals for proof.
One off insurances will always be way more expensive, thank gawd for disturbance monies!

I was moving to BFG at the time though, so that rather limited me. Glad you mentioned the above though ladies. Gives me food for thought when we get back to UK this year.

It's funny I always said disturbance is too much, no way would you need that much, but we'd only used it once, moving about 4 miles away. Now we're doing a full on cross country move i am amazed at how many extra costs we're incurring. I think the cheapest option might be to change my home insurance provider while I still have time to do it.

Try an overseas move S_T, and then you would see where you spend the extra. Especially Cyprus!

Sadly not an option for us gonz. I'd happily deal with the extra hassle for the chance for me and the twiglets to experience a different way of life. But Cyprus was changed from a posting to 6 month deployments for mr trees trade a few years back.

With regards to the insurance transit insurance is massively expensive! The AA are the winners by a country mile for cheapest home insurance that will cover in transit. Thanks for all advice.

It is a shame S_T that it is only short tours for him out here. It is a great posting, especially for the kids. I do think that they will start to make it a short unaccompanied tour in the future though.
