    How soon

Hi everyone, I'm new around here! My husband started at BRNC in September and will be passing out in April (touch wood :P) Having found the forms for him to apply for married accommodation he has now asked me to try and find out a few more things! He went to his DO to discuss our first house etc and is more than willing to help in through the application but the problem is she doesn't know when we're entitled to our first house. OH said he read it was either week 24 or 26 of his training but can I find any thing on the net to confirm this? NO! So I was hoping that someone here might know I'm currently living with my in-laws and itching to get into our new house lol Any help will be greatly apreciated! Thanks x

I forgot to add that after passing out he will be right back to BRNC for his initial warfare training, any idea where we'd most likely get a house? Obviously I'd love to live in Dartmouth but I doubt they will be able to give us a house there! Where abouts do you think we should apply??

There are MQ in Dartmouth, my OH has one, although will be giving it up soon, however, they are 3 bed homes and as you are childless, not sure what you qualify for.

Having said that, once he's qualified he's unlikely to be based in Dartmouth and I don't know how it works for new officers, but existing Navy guys get to pick a base or a ship type as their preference.

If ship type, they could be at any base, depending on where the ship they are allocated to is based, if they pick a port, they are allocated to ships in that port when the ship draft comes about.

So to answer your question of where you should apply, it depends on where you are going to be based and unless your OH has made that decision, I'd hold off.

As to when you are entitled to a MQ, can't help you there sorry.

Sorry Cutlass, we live in our own place and OH weekly commutes some I'm useless at MQ advice.

But I can back up Feisty one's advice - don't get settled in Dartmouth as your OH won't be there for long (in the great scheme of things) - more likely the Portsmouth area, Plymouth or Scotland. Depends what he ends up doing.

Is there any way you could rent privately in Dartmouth until you know where he will be based? He will have to be based somewhere for a minimum of 6 months in order to qualify for MQs - not sure when they start counting from (whether it's from initial passout or completion of phase 2).

It may be worth sitting tight and waiting until he is qualified and then applying for MQs once you know where he will be going. Unless your job is something where you can find employment wherever you go, it might not be worth uprooting to Devon only to have to go somewhere else fairly quickly.

    Good luck x

Thank you so much everyone for the replies I know that eventually we're gonna be based up in Scotland as he will be SM but that wont be for another couple of years I think. I'm quite happy to move to Pompey or Plymouth and I'm in the situation were I can just go when I want. I'm stupidly lucky in that I only really have a job atm just because I need something to do to get out of the house lol Love the inlaws but they do drive me mad sometimes!

Oh and even if you did get Quarters in Dartmouth, remember, you will be alone there most of the time if he's in training as they don't get much time off while training, because they want them focused on the job in hand.

Yeah, I think its more OH that wants the quarters in Dartmouth, I'm quite happy to settle some where for a good while lol Infact, I'm quite happy to go anywhere, I just want my own space again! We lived together in Brighton for 3 years whilst we were at university and whilst we shared with one other person it was more our place than his. Then having to move back in with parental figures its just all a bit weird, I'm almost 24 and haven't lived with my own parents since I was 18 lol

Ooh, another one heading up to Scotland. I'll be up there by the end of this year (have to have the baby and get married first!) - really looking forward to it.

Ahh how exciting for you We're so unsure about all of this because I think that most people get married whilst their OH's are already in the forces for a good few years lol My OH says theres only about 4 married people in his intake, 2 of which are medics and have already left BRNC. I just have itchy feet and going slightly mad in this tiny village!

We were supposed to be getting married before he went but his date for Raleigh came earlier than expected lol. I know what you mean though - only 3 guys in OHs class were married and one PVRd cos his missus couldn't cope. Only OH and one other bloke have kids.
