When we've had our lines cancelled they've just asked us for what date we want it.

Just go with what's going to be easier for yourself though. The last thing you want is any extra hassle, x

We've never done it. Last time we moved it just happened that all our contracts were coming to an end so we just didn't renew them so it was all very easy.

I think I'll start ringing companies on Monday, can't hurt to see how they want us to go about it and if they do want any money from us at least I'll have an idea of how much too. thanks

Ringing early is a very good idea. Phonelines and broadband especially can have a surprisingly long lead-in although in my experience the tv bit of sky can be sorted pretty quickly. Insurance can be sorted in advance as well, it's worth checking with cars whether they'll hike your premium by £200 just for being in a different postcode (Direct Line I'm looking at you and shaking my head).
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok. They know me here.

Eurgh I hadn't thought of that Kazzam!

Hopefully if won't go up anymore, the cost of that car is starting to drive me insane, don't need anymore money being swallowed up by it!

I hate Direct Line! I've never known a company to reveal hidden costs as much as they do! We cancelled our policy with them, all above board and they sent us a letter telling us that we didn't owe them a penny. A month later we started receiving weekly demands for hundreds of pounds that we supposedly owed them for ending it early. Luckily we had kept the original letter so that was faxed over and they were told where they could shove their demands! We are now with Admiral and so far they've been great. Fingers crossed they don't let me down!

Well we're here. I'm hoping I don't curse myself but so far so good.

The house is smaller than the one we've just moved out of but that's a bonus and actually it's exactly the sort of set up I wanted. Smaller living room so it's more cosy but a bigger dining room so there's plenty of room for my table and the kids to have a playspace. The garden is massive, the dogs been skipping round it like he's just been placed in doggy heaven.

The removals had already arrived before we did despite them telling us they'd be here at ten and they were completely happy to just sit and relax til we were ready. The community police officer scared the bejesus out of mr tree when he turned up while we were waiting for the HO to march us in. Asked if mr tree was indeed mr tree and then welcomed us to the neighbourhood and promised to pop round soon for a chat and to give us a load of local info he has. The housing officer lives a stones throw from our quarter so she gave us a load of useful info as well, and I'll be sent a letter inviting me to a welcome meeting in the community centre soon!

I also struck lucky in that my neighbour introduced herself as soon as she saw us, offered us brews and told us to send big tree over as soon as her lad got home from school so they could meet too. Her two boys are both a year older than mine so they'll have playmates hopefully.

I can't remember who recommended the local chippy to me by pm but dear god you were right! It was lush and (people are going to think i'm mental now...) sold proper gravy!!! You can't get gravy from any of the chippys anywhere near where we were and people look at you funny if you ask for it!

All in all a very happy tree family right now, if a little overwhelmed.

Massive thanks to everyone who has helped both publically and privately

It certainly makes a difference when neighbours introduce themselves to you. I've always tried doing that and only regretted it the once when she would come in at 8.30 and stay till my husband came home for his tea!

Hope yous are all happy there
