    Working from M. Quarter

    Hiya,

In my spare timeI do painting and drawing but till now have just done it for personal use, I have decided now that I want to set up a website and start selling some of my picures.

I was wondering what the rules are for this, Ive ben told that you cant run a business from my married quarter, would this count?

    Thanks, Ellie

I think you can as long as it's a part time thing. I know plenty of women who run avon, phoenix cards, pampered chef etc from their quarter. I'll find out for you if you have to get permission from somebody.

As far as I know, so long as you are running the business from a web site and don't declare the MQ as an expense in your tax return there should be no problem. You must declare profits but you'll have your tax allowance, so you probably won't pay any tax unless you go over the threshold.

You do not need permission from the CO or DE for a web based business. Just had someone come see me this wee at work and ask the same question so I checked with the HIC here and they said no.

They said it could'nt be done, so I did'nt do it

While I think on, it might be a good idea for you to register S/E and pay your NI stamp. ( 1st level ) It will help you in the long term if ever you need to claim Tax credit and/or pension benefits when you hit the 'big one'
    ( Just a thought )
Oh look, someone just served up a glass of vino
