    Re: Moving to Blandford

my mate has just come from sunny blandford and she said the houses are like rabbit hutches and the gardens are even smaller, when she got here (the shot) she went and spoilt her kids with a big trampoline for there garden as they could have things like that in blanford.

Now this is what iv been told by someone thats been there i aint been myself!!

She is very lucky to get a house on Camp! Big housing shortage there and there are at last count 140 hirings being used for the camp alone!

Gunville houses are like terraced houses, there is a living/dining room, Ok sized kitchen (upgraded withing last 3 years) and 2 bedrooms. Not sure on size of bedrooms but I know a mate who is in Gunville and there is just the 2 of them and a baby so thats how they manage. No front garden and back is not massive either but was at a BBQ at my mates and there were about 20 people, it's half concreted and half grassed.

One thing about Gunville is dampness, get her to check all the cupboards when she gets there as there have been quite a few problems that were allegidly sorted out but best to double check yourself.

Thank you for that. I have passed it on to my friend.I heard there was a housing shortage... It's the same here too, we're in a private let at the moment. Nice house though so can't complain.

    Re: Moving to Blandford

    Hello,
I am new to all this so bear with me....

My friend came on here and asked about accomodation at blandford camp.
I have been allocated a 2 bedroom house on 7 Gunville down road as of 1st sept.

Wanted to get down and have a look at the room sizes as not sure if all our furniture will fit in(dont want to lugg it all down thenhave nowhere to put it or store it ) But we were told that the housing officer is too busy to let us in.
Does anyone know any other way of us getting in to have a look or anyone actually living in one.

We were told we could come down and have a look through the windows but they couldnt be sure the curtains would be open... so we could drive 3.5 hours down to have a look and not be able to see a thing.
    Really stuck with this one.

Would be very gratefull for any advise , ideas or experiences at gunville down road.

Thanks for the comments so far guys xxxx

    Re: Moving to Blandford

I mentioned before to your friend there is a housing shortage in Blandford. Some people are living in private hirings up to 15 miles away from camp. I know of one lady who is in warminster (nearly 30 miles away). Take the house!

How much furniture do you have? I have just asked my friend who is there what she has got

Living room: L shaped and she can fit in, 2 setees (2 & 3 seaters), a large dining table with 4 chairs (6 at a pinch) a coffee table, 52 inch TV, and a desk with a PC on it (at the door at the back)

Upstairs - Room 1 - Huge (her words) had king bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe and cot.
Room 2 - Fits double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe

Kitchen - good size, can swing 2 cats in it, refurbed within last 3 years

I have just come from Blandford where we had a hiring. Although I was only 3 miles away hubby had to use the car everyday to get to work. The was no public transport so I was walking everywhere. OK in good weather but in winter, a nightmare. I was very isolated and my neighbours did'nt really speak to us, hubby convinced it was cos of his uniform.

If you both have your own cars then you would be OK out of camp, if not then personally I'd take Gunville. Public transport in the Blandford Area is a bit pants to say the least.

As for getting a look in the house, why dont you contact Sam in the HIVE, she may know someone who lives in Gunville who would let you look at their house? Just an idea........

We were told there was a big shortage of houses so had said we would except anything as long as it was on camp. We only have one car so would be a nightmare . also i wanted to be on the camp too as everyone is in the same boat there.

    Really appreciate all your help.
