    Disturbance allowance

    Hi there

I am moving soon due to service reasons *increase of family and am unsure what the rate of disturbance allowance is. I am also unsure of how i go about claiming it.

I have been told that is will be authorised automatically on the hand over of the original married quarter which then normally takes 2 weeks but are there no other forms that need to be filled in? And does this mean that it will be in our account after the 2 week peroid?

    Help me please!! x x x

Last time my OH was posted it wasn't automatic. There are forms to complete but not sure whether or not it's done via JPA now or not. Don't forget you can apply for it before you actually move. Speak to the RAO or get your OH to check JPA.

You have to apply for it, you can do this no more than 30 days before move and when authorised (JPA tell you when it's been OK'd) it will be paid with hubby's next pay.

My hubby did it by JPA, it was authorised in a couple of days but we had just missed the pay run and had to wait till his next pay day before we got it.

    Help!!
We have moved from our rented home into a married quarter after getting married. Nearly all other couples who have done the same thing have told us that we are entitled to some sort of Disturbance Allowance for moving. Is this so? I didn't think you could get it for moving from rented accomodation. We also have 9 year old child who had to move school etc too. Does this make any difference to the claim?

Like you I didn't think you could claim for your "first" move. However ... the folks on here may be able to tell you differently.

Apply for it! The worst that can happen is you get "computer says NO".

    Re: Disturbance allowance

As long as you both lived there after you got married and this is the address your hubby had on his records as living at permenantly while working then you whould get it whether it's rented or not.

The only thing they wont pay for is if you were living there (rented house) and your hubby was in the block/mess before and after wedding) and the first official place you will live together is the MQ then you wont get it.

You can always try and claim, JPA has a mind of it's own.....

It's not a straight figure for everyone. It depends on whether you have children too. Get your OH to check on JPA. It tells him everything he needs there.

    Re: Disturbance allowance

The only time kids make a difference is if they are in 'a uniformed school' its something like an extra 152 per child in school. this is supposed to cover items like school uniform that may need changing. Kids in pre-school or nursery don't count.

My recent application for disturbance allowance was put in on JPA, refused 2 days later, resubmitted after telling the clerks that I wasn't going to Germany and that they were wrong, not me. two more days later and it was authorised. Its gone into my bank account and all I'm waiting for now is taking over the new house so I know how big a telly I can fit in... I mean I'm using the money wisely for moving related stuff....
