    Abingdon

    Hi,

can anyone give me any info on housing and transport links. I am going there in October and hubby is deploying with unit from Germany. I don't drive and have no children at home, it is mainly so i can get work and see my family more.

    Thanks
    Diane

    Re: Abingdon

Although I'm not based there (I'm about half an hour up the A34), I was brought up in the area, so I know Abingdon quite well.

A lot of the quarters are about 15-20 minutes out of Abingdon in Grove. It's a nice enough area, and if you were there you would be completely mixed in with civvy families.

Transport links are fairly good. Regular buses into Oxford, which is about 20mins to half an hour away. Oxford has all your major shops, but for supermarkets, doctors and everything you'll need Wantage (town that Grove backs onto) or Abingdon are enough. Very big Tescos in Abingdon and a decent enough Sainsburys in Wantage (where I worked when I was at school!).

Any more info you need, just give me a yell.

I'm actually in quarters at Dalton Barracks in Abingdon, my hubby will still be in Iraq when you get posted so give me a shout and we'll meet up.
Abingdon has good surgeries, vets, takeaway places and tesco's, but for clothes shopping and alike you'll be going to Oxford or Reading!
