    Old College Sunday

    Morning all,

Anyone any advice on what to wear to Old College Sunday next week? I know it's not a jeans type affair but just how smart should I go? Should I be thinking of dresses or are trousers ok? Is it a hat day? Etc...don't want to end up over or under dressed and embarrass my OH!

I wore a pretty summery dress (knee length or below), a cardigan and wedges (it was July). Trousers are fine too. I'd say be warm and wear shoes that you can be comfy standing in for a while. You'll be fine so long as you're reasonably smart and reasonably modest. Wouldnt worry about a hat!

Thanks Moomin...I hit the shops to take advantage of the last of the sales and I think I've picked up something pretty suitable! I don't mind the standing around but is there much outdoors? I checked the 10 day forecast and it says rain (typical!) I don't much fancy trying to recover from the drowned rat look!

Yes, they have a parade and march out onto the square. And then there's time for them to show you around the place - i recall excess walking!

Take lots of layers, I went in october and from walking from that car to the building, then being crammed into a hall with over 500 people it gets a bit warm!

So standing around, being cold, excess walking and herded like sheep...got it! Wow it's sounding more glamorous by the second! Thanks for the heads up though I'm glad I'm not going in blind or my choice in outfit would probably have been very different and in all likelihood a source or hilarity/embarrassment for OH!
They were allowed to sign out for a few hours today and she drove all the way home just for a cup of tea before having to turn around and drive back...I thought this was most sweet until she spent the whole time saying "have a look on RP and see if there's anything about such and such/any info on blah blah blah" I think that was actually the real reason for her visit! She said half the time I have more access to info about what's going on than she does! It's nice to know I'm still good for something ;-)

Another quick question to those of you in the know; I'm getting the train up to Camberley on Saturday and staying overnight so I'll have my overnight bag with me on Old College Sunday, will there be anywhere I can store my bag or will I have to lug it around with me all day?

There wasn't anywhere to put anything when I went in oct. You went to the hall, then outside, then the church then looked at diffrent displays and their living accom. Don't worry about it, I'm sure some other people will be doing the same. when we dropped oh off at the very begining I was carrying a very small bag 2 coats and a pair of shoes (felt like the bag lady)as I had forgot I wouldn't be able to leave things in this car unless I didn't want them for 5 weeks. I will warn you tho, when I went the other people who went were rude everyone pushing and shoving to get a glimps of their son\daughter\OH. Are you stopping at the travelodge across the road by any chance? As I'm also there from saturday aft onwards.

Leave your stuff in a locker at the train station?

Train station...bloody genius! Yes I'm staying at Travelodge too! Only travelling from Pompey so it's not too far, will probably head down around lunchtime, I'll be happily ensconced in the bar for the duration of the afternoon (just to get a good view for the rugby honestly!) if you fancy a pint! I'm not really one for pushing and shoving (my sister calls it car boot sale syndrome!) so I'll probably just stand back and let them get on with it!

Assuming you're coming in to Camberley there are no lockers there and even if there were the station buildings are open for about 2 hours a day.

Ladies I'm doing a split shift at work on Sat so will be free between midday and 1700 if anyone wants to meet up - can't enjoy a pint unless its cola mind you.
Heaven wont have me, hell is scared I'll take over. Time for the pub!

On the move this weekend. Not sure yet where I'm going or when I'll get there.....hope theres enough vodka in the car.
