No its not normal.
Although my hubby was a little like he last time he was away in the sandpit. He used to sulk cos I wasn't home when he phoned. I made it quite clear to him that I was not going to sit in the house all day by the phone just in case he called. I had 2 young children to entertain plus I had a life and wanted to get on with it. Didn't mean I missed him any less.
Tell him either to man up and realise you also have a life, or to go find someone who is willing to sit at home pining after him. Simple.
