    Maritime security?

    Hi

Is anyone's OH doing private maritime security? Mine is trying to get into it and am wondering what to expect. Four month contracts seem to be the norm :-(

Mr TLC is in that field (he does the recruitment, training, deployment and welfare for one of the top three companies) so I am happy to get him to answer any questions you have .........

Jess, he's not employed as yet but contacting companies and he has one interview set up for Friday. Tootsie, I'm wondering what the average time away is mostly. I know the money's good and that's why so many are doing it but I'm thinking I'm going be spending the year on my own which after Afghan last year doesn't thrill me! xx

A couple of months I can handle but at least one company has said he'd be gone for 4 months on his initial contract and one of his mates is away for a 4 months at a time.

My hubby could do this after he leaves and I have to say it's the one thing I've asked him not to do

Not because of the time away (we're approaching four months since I last saw him) but because of the risk. Lots of money to be made, very little back up IF (and it's a big if) things go wrong.

Don't know any people that do 4 months away but know several that do 6-12 wks on then 2-3 off.

Ditto all the above, but one thing is to make sure that the company that he goes with is a decent reputable one, (ie top 3) things like they have a proper evac plan etc, as I know that some of the smaller companies don't have things like sorted and obviously it is really important.

Time scale most of them do 3mths or so, they can pretty much chose their 'trips', good money tho!!!

    Good luck xxxx

Hi there! My hubby has been doing this for over a year now. He started off with CP in Iraq, then went over to the maritime work. In Iraq he was on a fixed rota of 8 weeks on, 4 weeks off if I remember rightly. Since doing the Maritime, the company he's with now do 6 weeks away minimum - but can do more if you wish. (he did a 3 monther to get some cash flowing in before we moved house) and then he comes home for as long as he likes. They work that he gives his next availability date to deploy, so its up to the individual how long you work and then take as leave. The other compnay he has worked for tends to fly them home between transits. So he went away for 7-10 days, then home for a few then back to work again for another trip. That suited us quite well... it does seem to have a fair amount of flexibilty. Hope that helps x
