Hes off to cyprus next week?

Alright I got a phone call this morning that woke me up, from my OH telling me that they have told him to get his desert camo sorted because they may be sending them to Cyprus next week.
I know that when the army says something, next week could turn into next month. But I'm preparing myself for it to be next week.

This is going to be the first time he's going overseas since he passed out of basic training last July, and frankly, in my mind I had been preparing myself for the afghanistan deployment, so Cyprus has some as a relief!

However, I'd like some advice...he said i'd be able to go over to Cyprus to see him, but I'm at university, so obviously it may not be that easy but if its possible for me to visit i'll try in every way possible to do so. My dad said that when my uncle was in the navy (quite some years ago now) they paid for the wives and families to go visit. Is this still the case or would I have to pay for myself and make my own way?

Its only for two months, and I'm greatful that the news wasn't 6 months in afghanistan! And I know we'll be fine because we went 2 months without seeing eachother last year when he was in basic training. But still..its going to be difficult because im used to seeing him every weekend now!

Does anyone have any advice or information to share with me? Sorry the post is so long! But im mega greatful for any answers.

Get skype on your computer....and prepare to be single soon because Cyprus is obviously a holiday resort.

As far as I know you'd have to pay yourself and make your own way.

Mr tree did Lion Sun in 2009 and I think as a first deployment after basic you've got lucky. You know he's safe which is always nice and contact is good too.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that it will be easy because it's not that long and it's safe though. He isn't where he should be and that is always going to affect you regardless of where he actually is. its a change to the usual routine and it will still have its moments where you want to scream! But as stints away go it could be a hell of a lot worse and it's nice to have that to remember when it all feels just a bit shite!

I can't give you Cyprus specific advice as Mr Dizzy has only passed through. I know when he did his faulklands trip they had the option to fly someone out instead of going home for RnR but I am not sure if it still applies and I am not sure if it would happen on a two month posting.

It might seem like a long time but two months will fly by. Mr D was away recently and I blinked and missed it! Just keep busy and enjoy Uni.

I am in Cyprus at the moment. If you are a girlfriend you will have to pay your own way. If you're planning on flying into Larnaca try and book easijet or equivalent. If Paphos I can't help. If bf is in my area I can help with hotel advice, just let me know.

In relation to the rest, keep busy!

Seriously over the years you will suffer a lot worse than 2 months apart and you will learn to cope better.

I think take this as a 'practice' it will be a good test to see if you can handle Army life, the first tour is always the worst, however, you should get plenty of comms with him, far more than if he was in Afghan... make the most of it!!!

and yes, as Cabana says..... be prepared....!!!!

Funny you should say that. I've found when he's safe and not THAT far away I really struggle. Might just be me but when he's going through a hard time I seem to cope better, I am the supportive pillar of strength he needs. ..if he was out there sunning his pastey arrse while I'm here freezing my rack off I'd be raging

    Evil, me?. Nooooo!

Oh hell no not evil! I didn't want to scare the OP so I didn;t mention how much i wanted to rip his face off because he was sunning himself in Cyprus (and going to waterparks!!!!) while i was pregnant looking after a 4 yr old and had sodding swine flu!! Oh and he brought me back a shit present!

Wasn't much better when he did his sunshine cruise around the med either but he was on pain of death to bring back better presents and did.

Yeah, he went on some 'training' thing to Kenya. Training pfft. I think they learn't how to open a beer bottle with an Elephants tusk or something. He got bitten to bits though which is good.

I feel for him sometimes when he rings and says they had an early finish and sighs that he has to go on a 'Squadron function', I think they make stuff up to celebrate.. ''Wooo its Wednesday, lets get bladdered''

Just read that out to Mr Tree, he had a big smirk on his face and nodded so I reckon you''re pretty spot on! I always called Lion Sun, Lie In Sun because I genuinely thought that's what he had said when he 1st told me he was going on it. Turns out it was probably a much more appropriate description anyway!!

One of our lot got trampled by an elephant when they went to Kenya *stifles giggle*

S_T when Mr Gonzo went to Kenya he brought me back 5 lions carved out of wood on a plinthe. It is meant to be our family, it is so sickeningly sweet it is vomit inducing!

From Cyprus I got a towel which is only big enough for one of the kids to use, a fridge magnet (that snapped shortly after i put it on the fridge) a plate (as in plaque type thing not something that you eat your dinner off) which is so lovely it hangs in our toilet lol. I think that was it.

But yeah OP considering its a holiday destination presents from Cyprus are pants!
