So looks like youre all getting to the finishing line...My year began yesterday dropped my OH off for first day of juniors...very emotional, but very exciting.
I was just wondering if any of you lovely ladies could let me know the postal address we need to use to post the OCDts sweets etc. As my OH mentioned he had seen the address on a wall....but i dont want to bombard him with texts etc asking about it as i know he will be uber busy. On the plus side my phone went off at midnight...and it was him...made everything seem a lot better. Bring on the next 5 weeks i say!

It does get better after the first 5 weeks, and Inters is better again! I'm sure you've already had loads of great advice about keeping busy

The address will be something along the lines of:
Ocdt ............
00 Platoon
....... Company
RMAS
Surrey
GU15 4PQ
I also add my OH's army/soldier number thing after his surname, not sure if it makes a difference though! You need the number of his platoon and company to fill in and then sorted
I found that a lot of my OH's family sent him sweets and chocolate (some of which he still has!!) in the first few weeks, so when I sent pepperami, cheese strings and babybel and other savoury treats it made a really nice change. Anything that's a favourite of his will go down well!

He'll give you his address in the next few days once they've sorted out his number, which platoon and company, they don't get post on a saturday.
It will fly by, its only a year and you will see him more than you think, I can't seem to get rid of mine for a weekend without him going on exercise. Its not all doom and gllom down there either, they have nights out and in as a company and as an in take.
I would advise taking out shares in the travelodge or premier in as I seem to have spend a fortune on them in the last few months. Also go to as many socials as you can and be open minded to the other gfs. I now share lifts with another gf whenever we go down.
What I've heard the intake that has gone in, are very unlikey to go out to afgan in a combat role, but things can change, apparently on 10% of my OH intake will go, due to when were suppose to withdraw and training.

Glad to hear you had a nice break Bex, mine was pretty similar - didn't go away, but did some nice things; few days away in the WestCountry and a night out at a jazz club :-)
Mrs. P, it'll be a tough year, but the anticipation of him going away is almost as bad as him going, so you've done one of the hard bits already, welldone! Once you've figured out an address I found that writing to him was a really good way of 'putting my feelings in a box.' If I miss my OH a lot I tend to write to him then I'm not bombarding him with texts he doesn't have time to answer, and I can get on with my day knowing that I've done something to try and make me feel better. (Although bear in mind he won't necessarily have the time to write back- maybe think of it as a one way communication channel!! )

Haha! That's exactly what I do Vita, if I'm feeling a bit down I write it in a letter so that when we get to talk I feel like I've already discussed it and don't bring him down! But it definitely is a one way communication channel, I can count on one hand the number of letters the OH has sent me, though he is a sweetie and saves up his Berry Combo Fruit Grains from ration packs to send me (if you haven't had them ask your OH to save a packet for you - they are the best thing to come out of ration packs!!)

They do the boiled sweets still. I nicked OHs.

Wow can't believe it's only 14 weeks til commissioning! Hope everyone had a good break, we had a few days away in the sun, it all went a bit too quick especially after looking forward to the 3 week holiday. Missing him like mad again. Unfortunately even though I'm looking forward to him commissioning I'll be going away shortly after for a year so definitely not looking forward to that part! How was the reels ball, did anyone go?

I went to the Reels Ball. It was reely (sorry) good! Lots of beautiful dresses and some good dancing - they could have done with a caller though! A highlight was the dancing outside by candlelight :-) But there's an hopeless romantic buried somewhere under my several layers of stiff upper lip so that might have just been me...
Back to the daily grind now. Meh.

Reels ball was great fun, like Vita said dancing on the parade sqaure by candle light was really romantic.
We went on holiday for 10 nights, was so good to get away. Have already planned the leave weekends for this term! Its a shame when the OH commissions he only gets 10 days off before the start of his YO's course, no holiday time there!
I'm hoping in the next few weeks we can have a date so we can set our weding, fingers crissed he gets to speak too the right people about it!

Um, I think I just asked OH to move in with me!!! (MASSIVE step for me)
And he (ever the romantic) said, "Oh, I thought we were kind of heading that way anyway."
Bloody men!

Ok, admittedly it wasn't the most romantic proposition to start with. It was more along the lines of...
"When I get my new place in September, if there's room, would you like to move some of your stuff in and then come back on weekends when you're not busy...(provided you're not in Germany of course)?"
So I guess he can't be blamed too much for taking that bit for granted!! It's just that we'd planned to wait another year really. But I just sort of thought that I'd make a bit more room for him to feel at home.

Congrats! At least you're likely to see more of each other too. Is anyone going to the june ball?
- 20-05-2012, 09:11 #136
Ah right we do that clothes etc at each others, saves fafing about when you get the call saying I'm on the M1 and he doesn't have to wear tweed all weekend.
I'm looking forward to setting a wedding date in the next couple of weeks. His regiment are all okay with it just waiting for his YOs dates and xmas leave so we can get insurance sorted.
Going to the company charity ball in june oxymore depends what date your going as there's 3 aparently!
Well I've got him snoring next to me, best wake him up as he wants to go buy 'chav' stuff to dress up in for thir exercise next week.
Also is anyone going down next weekend? Its athletics day, plus they have sunday off?

I'm at the Saturday one, very excited! It was meant to be themed but apparently they've oped for 'just' black tie, not very Creative, but hey I still get to wear a posh frock! Ah I've heard all about the next exercise and the night out, my OH gets to be a cleaner for Civ Pop...I can only imagine what he's going to get for that!!

Athletics day was the whole intake. They were quite a few other girlfriends there.
Looking forward to the charity night, thats if i can get into my dress! Not quite sure of the format of it yet, if theres an auction or anything to raise the money needed.
No not getting married at Sandhurst although i did suggest it as the parde said he would marry us and im guessing the marquee will still be up on the saturday from the commissioning ball. We saw a wedding reception taking place by the lake when we were there for the athletics and can say it just isnt me.
I'm quite surprised how much ive heard from the OH to say there away on exercise this last week or so.
Got anything nice planned for the leave weekend girls?

At the risk of 'outing' myself, we're going to a family wedding this weekend - I'm so excited!! I just can't keep quiet :-)
It's been nice hearing from them while they're on exercise, and it sounds like so much fun! I almost want to do it myself! But I have a feeling that the rural stuff this week will be a bit tougher. I've been told by several friends to expect them to come back with lots of injuries, especially from getting hit with riot trunction things!
Your wedding preparations must be such fun ruggedfamo :-) And I can kind of understand your feelings on a Sandhurst wedding. I'm not sure I'd mind either way, but it's been quite nice being able to go back to the church where my parents were married for christenings and other events, whereas if he ever leaves the army then you don't really have the opportunity to go back to the place where you were married which is a bit disappointing I suppose.
Have you looked at dresses and things?Last edited by Vita; 21-06-2012 at 12:08.
