Ok, apologies all, silly boy mis-heard the 2nd time. Reels ball is on the 7th April! How is everyone else? Think I may have got over my hiccup, apologies all (esp ruggedfamo) for being moody! Xx

My OH's company has organised an event for partners to go to too, very excited!! Major healthy eating/exercise plan leading up to it which I'm looking forward to...not! Don't worry, we all have hiccups now and again, getting stressed and wishing it didn't feel like it is all take take take on his part. But this term has definitely been better than last term! I wish I could go to the sports thing at the weekend, but last minute train tickets are waaaaaay out of my budget

Bex are you on about the drinks night at the end of march? I'm going to the sports thing this weekend although not too sure about going up to the gate and asking them if they have my name down...didn't know it was sports until I had booked the hotel as they have a late finish.
I have to agree this term has been a lot better, seen him nearly every weekend. Nearly half way there and we can think about a nice frock for the commissioning ball! How are your OH holding up about RSB?

He hasn't said it's a drinks night, all he knows is the date! They don't even have a dress code or anything yet. I've only seen him as much as Juniors, but we've been able to skype and talk a lot more, and we're hoping to organise an extra weekend later in the term to see each other I'm definitely thinking new frock for commissioning ball, it's the most important one really so I think it's necessary!! Just checking (I'm still not totally down with the technical terms!) but by RSB do you mean his regiment selection? If it is then he's just had a really good interview this afternoon (an informal one, not a proper one!) So I think it's a weight off his mind. Also they can't drop anyone from today apparently so it looks like all systems go! Both regiments he's chosen are in the North (thank god!) so we should be able to see each other a lot more often how's your OH coping?

Is there an organised night for partners now? My OH in the Somme says there might be one next term but doesn't know anything more! And he doesn't know about the ball but I have seen it in the little red book. Do they have to apply for tickets and is it for everyone? Vita - I often feel like that too, sometimes when I'm stressed and he doesn't really seem interested in what I'm doing but then he goes into loads of detail about what he's doing it's a bit frustrating. I guess an element of it is the nature if what they do and how excluded and isolated they are from what's going on in the world around them at the moment

The partners night depends on company I think, it's something they've organised themselves and isn't a Sandhurst "official" event. The dining in night next term is for partners I think, but the one this term is parents only. You have to apply for tickets for the Reels Ball, but they're about £40 each and the OH's friends who went last term said it wasn't very good. Though I suppose it is an excuse to see them

Thanks oxymore- good to know I'm not the only one! It's a bit better now...after I had my strop he understood a bit more and I've decided to take some time off college later in the term so we can spend some more time together. (I knew I couldn't get time off during his leave until Xmas- was putting quite a lot of strain on us I think). And he's being quite supportive about my exams now too. I was on the verge of minor-meltdown! But I'm 1 down and 5 more to go now.

As for events, OH is considering trying to get tickets to the Reels Ball, but haven't heard anything more about other events.

And RSB news seems to be quietening down until proper interviews, as said before- I think they've stopped cutting people. I'm hoping and praying that he gets what he wants...he's perfect for it, and will be so gutted if he doesn't get it :-(

I know, it's SO long! And they've only just left! But at least the countdown can start now. I didn't get to spend the last weekend with OH, so I'm going to attempt to go down midweek next week so he can take me out for dinner (once they've got back from Wales). Haven't heard anything more about a charity ball, but i'm definitely going to the reels ball on the 7th. Just need to get my outfit sorted!

And thanks for the very thoughtful luck wishings oxymore! Exams have finally finished now- I'm training to be a solicitor and only have a few more left in the summer. It certainly keeps me busy while the boy's away, and i've got a week of post-exam leave now which is blissful! What's everyone else up to this week while they're away?

Hi everyone! I found this site by accident but gosh I wish I had found it sooner! My boy wonder is in his final term and commissions in April! I was looking on the Internet to help me prepare for the ball and found you lovely lot! I am already excited to get to know you all and hopefully meet some of you at the ball!! My love and I have been friends for around 6 years now and I finally plucked up the courage and drunkly took him home one night!!! Ha! Now I am the happiest I have ever been and we just celebrated our one year anniversay I wish I had found you all sooner, Sandhurst has been hard I miss him all the time! But by Jove it has all been worth it!! He is to be stationed an hour away from me! Eeeee! So glad he didn't get Germany!

Ps he bought me a book called "The Soliders Wife" for my birthday and I just finished it! It is an interesting read, a little shocking and scary but it has helped me realise army wives and girlfriends have it quite hard and sacrifice quite a bit! I'd recommend it!

Hi everyone, I am not officially a partner of someone in the forces, but I am going into Sandhurst quite soon. It has been delayed ages due to an injury but my start date is now booked. I have a long term girlfriend from a forces family, and she told me I have not been realistic about the hardships our relationship will be put through, so I tried to find out more information so I could understand what it will be like for her, and came across this site on the net (ARRSE is brilliant for some stuff, but not really this).

Having used the search function to death, I think I have gained a much better understanding of what it will be like for her when I join up, and am in training, or at least I hope I have. I have really enjoyed reading this thread. It is one of the more detailed ones that tracks your journeys from start to the end of the course. When your other halves all commission out, and this thread is ‘complete’ (for want of a better word) I will send the link to my girlfriend as I believe she will find it very useful too.

Feels a bit weird reading this thread when its not to do with me and quite personal to you all, but it really has helped and I signed up as I wanted to say thanks.

    Hi Azbeee and 2RMAS,

Firstly I think Azbeee that you might benefit from finding the thread from when your OH started Sanders, as all ours are in Inters. Though by all means stick around, I'm sure we could all benefit from your advice as you've been through it (almost)! You must be really looking forward to his commissioning ball, I'm already excited and my OH's isn't until August!! You're so lucky he'll only be an hour away from you, I'm hoping for a similar outcome with mine, which is looking quite likely atm...best wait until week 12 after interviews to celebrate though!!

2RMAS, I think it's really nice that you've gone to such lengths to find out what your OH will go through, it's more than a lot of people would have done and hopefully she'll really appreciate it! I know they say that more people start Sandhurst with an OH than people who smoke and then by the end it's the other way round...but that doesn't seem to be the case in my OH's platoon, in fact one of the single blokes actually got a girlfriend during their Christmas break! There's only a handful of them without an OH and all of them who have one are still together!

    Hope you both stick around

Aww thanks Bex!! I do hope I can help anyone! It has been a tough year having him at Sandhurst! If your lovely is in inters...I'm trying to remember now, has he done Ex Broadsword yet? If not what was his last Ex? I am SUPER excited for the Ball! Nervous though, I feel like he wants me to be the perfect lady on his arm but I tell ya I'll do my best but I am much more comfortable in a pair of climbing shoes and chalk on my hands than high heels and a long dress!

He's only inters so not yet, they're due back from Druid's Ridge in a few days! Very excited, haven't spoken since last Sunday! Though I'm not expecting much of a conversation when he gets back :P I'm sure you'll be fine at the ball, I am preparing to be on my most best behaviour for when I meet his platoon at the end of the month...I don't think I'll be having much to drink! My little brother's big on climbing he always needs help dressing for going out...but he is also a boy, I'm sure you'll nail it!

AH! Gosh Druids Ridge! Poor boys! So he'll be back for a long weekend wont he! Gosh that seems YEARS ago to me! I cant believe how quick it flies! Well, I say that looking back but I tell ya it didnt feel like that during it! HA! You should ask him to buy you something from their thrift shop! My boy bought me a Sandhurst pink t-shirt! Well, he said he did, then on his first 3 week leave he wore it the entire time hee hee so when I went to pack it in his bag he was like, " What you doing that yours!" I explained I hadnt worn it once and as soon as I had ironed it it was back on him! So he says its mine when he is on base and mine when he isnt! Silly boys! But after xmas it was back in his bag and I havent seen it since! HA! Actually, dont ask him for a t-shirt! HA ha ha ha! Maybe a pen or hat! Oh this is my dress

Hi vita normandy depends on the platoon there in. It starts week tomorrow and finishes on the friday. I'm quite surprised I've not miss oh as much as I thought this week I've been really busy. Can't wait for a good old catch up tho whhen he's back. Its my birthday tuesday, the first one without with and seperated parents - this is not going to be fun!

aww this is so sweet i feel like this thread is going down into history with our little own story of Sandhurst. And the fact you've gone to such an effort to find out about life in Sandhurst too, that's lovely, I wish my OH had found out more but I'm probably the more resourceful half anyway. Hehe.

Are they really back already? I thought they weren't back til tomorrow. Also I heard they were leaving to Normandy next Sunday but that's what OH tells me. I'll have a look in the red book though and see if the dates in there
