    Lydd camp??

Hi all, my son passed out of Catterick end of September, did his driver training and passed, and now he's gone to Lydd Camp for Innovative Readiness Training, what actually is this?? He goes to his battalion for the first time next week, it all seems to be happening to quick! But don't actually know anything you know what the army's like! Does anyone out there know anything they can tell me please x

Lydd is near Folkestone and used for lots of training. If I were you I'd get used to the not knowing what he's doing, generally its "on a need to know" basis! Official secrets blah blah blah!

    Hi

It's scary, you are possibly thinking, he's gone from recruit to almost joining his battalion and it's sinking in that this is all of a sudden becoming real, he's no longer just your son, but is becoming a soldier.

I don't honestly know what that training is, but I'd be tempted to think of it in this way, his basic training flooded him and his body with new skills, experiences and information overload, that's had time to settle and become the norm now, so he starts to get additional information and training that he needs for his battalion.

Over his time, he will go on lots of training that just adds to his skills, things that they can't teach you all in one hit, because too much info in and you don't remember the important bits.

As Bootifull said, there's going to be a lot that you will no longer know about or get to know about, and it's going to be scary as you will be facing the fact he will be going on tour at some point, it's only natural, but knowing about each step of the training, won't in all honesty make it any easier to face, probably make it harder in some aspects.

I'm not a mum, so don't know how it feels, but this is where you have to take a deep breath, and accept that no one knows all about what their kids are doing and you will worry, but knowing all the details won't help.

Being there to support them, is the best way to help.
Nothing to see here, move on by....

Lydd *shudders* it's training him on how to survive hostile environments since the locals round there are all three fingered, furry web footed inbreds who are scared of the rest of the world potentially diluting their gene pool.

Or its a live firing range where they do alot of training using the 'village' in the middle of the training area.
    EnigmaRole and draegora like this.
Heaven wont have me, hell is scared I'll take over. Time for the pub!

On the move this weekend. Not sure yet where I'm going or when I'll get there.....hope theres enough vodka in the car.

Yup, bloody furry web footed inbred

BTW how did you get permission to leave the marshes, I hear its a rare thing to be allowed out!

God knows they spent enough time trying to get me out of the village when I worked at the camp a few years ago.
