Hi my son will be going to Afghan too, in November, he passes out at the end of this month from Catterick, it has gone really quick for me too, but he's really itching to finish his training now and has loved every bit of it, I'm really proud of him but I'm so worried now it's become 'real' I get myself into a right mess sometimes, I know how you feel it's a real mix of emotions I'm so happy that he's happy doing something he says he cant believe he's getting paid to do, and so frightened of how I'm going to cope, I'm trying to deal with one thing at a time. Keep in touch x

I'm not a Mum, but a wife. What country is your son going to? Maybe some of us can out your mind at rest in relation to the country at least.

Hi, thanks for replying to my post and I'm sorry its taken a few days to get back to you but been keeping busy with work ( gratefull for the distraction if I'm honest ). With training almost at an end It is a very worrying time but I'm sure your looking forward to the passing out, even though it will be full of mixed emotions. I cant put into words how proud I am of all our lads and lassies, and what they have achieved in such a short time already. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that my thoughts are with you and your son. My son will be sent to Cyprus, and as of yet I have no idea what this involves, he's very excited.. One thing at a time sonds like a plan. Let me know how your doing..x

Your right to be proud, just remember that your child is doing what they want and has worked so very hard to get to this stage. It doesn't matter what our kids do, when they move away it's hard. You just learn to find your own way of coping, in time it gets easier . I won't lie and say the tours get easier they don't, you just cope better because you've done it before and found coping mechanisms.

If you haven't already found us- facebook has a support group for mums 'army mums uk'.
Wishing your children every good luck in their future and just remember they are the men/women they are today because you made them that way- so give yourselves a pat on the back as well.
