    Hi Kev, welcome to RP.

My son passed out of AFC Harrogate last December. I too was so incredibly proud of him. And yes, I shed a wee tear (or was that the freezing wind and blizzard that raged throughout the parade?)

Enjoy the parade, and take loads of photos. There is nothing like seeing your boy become a man!

I bet you'll be grinning from ear to ear on the day. Well done on raising such an upstanding young man.

Just a word to the wise, this is an open forum so just be aware of what you are posting (son's movements, places, dates etc) anyone can read it. You might want to take a look at the opsec/ persec rules in welcome. Otherwise we're really glad to have you here, you might find a welcome relief from other parents on here when your son does go on tour.

Nice to have you on the forum.

Hi Kev & Family. Greetings from North Somerset.

My Son passed out of ITC Catterick 4 1/2 years ago. The passing out Ceremony was just great. We saw two Regiments on the parade ground, The Rifles and also A Scottish Rifles Batallion. The marching was so good and not one person out of step. Wait to see the "Rifles" doing their march past at 120 paces to the minute.....fantastic. You will need lots of tissues mate. After the Parade you will return to the NAAFI where there will be a nice Buffet Lunch laid on plus Booze !!! lol. I am ex Royal Navy and thought we looked smart in our Uniforms, but wait until you see these Chappies. Bring some cash with you, because in the foyeur of the Naafi there will be guys selling pictures etc, but be sure to order A video of the Ceremony taken on the day. We cant stop watching ours lol, cost around £10.00, best Vid. I have ever bought. All in All such a fantastic day and so bloody proud. Son currently in the Gan and tells me the moral in his Team is very high.

Darlington Railway Station is a right miserable place lol and long journey back to North Somerset but all worth it.

Let me know if you want any further Info Kev.
    Kind Regards Sparky

I recently put the OH's passing out vid onto DVD (yes he reallt has been in THAT long!) and I can't help keep watching it!

Hope you have a really fantastic day and welcome to RP.

Im not sure if it is different now than in the dark ages when Mr D passed out (and from a different training est.) but they had some seats although some people were standing.

Hi Kev & Wifee, The Ceremony will take about and Hour and a Bit. Yes seating is there. We did not get to speak to any Officers from the "Rifles" but managed to speak to a Corporal who had taken our Son through training and he gave us great compliments about Son.
Do not bother dressing up in a Suit etc. Think I was one of the few wearing a suit. Just smart casual with a coat will do (Tie not required) but up to yourself. Get some Brekky before you arrive. You should be able to leave Mid afternoon or maybe you are in accommodation for a further night and taking Son out for a meal ? or departing O/C Ceremony ? Make sure you order the Video Kev

    Welcome

Not long now til your's and your son's special day.

Like Dizzy, I just recently watched OH's passing out parade and had watery eyes like a loon so actually being there must be a VERY proud moment.

    Enjoy the special day

Hi - it's a great day, my son is currently based at Catterick and I rather like the place. Pass out is an amazing day, take extra money for beer, photos /dvd's of passout etc and other stuff they like to flog you. Wrap up warm, comfy shoes, and sunglasses so you don't look a complete numpty when you start bubbling!
Black Watch ace battalion ( granddaughter and great niece of the old regiment) well done to your lad!
Now the sandpit is a whole different story, my lads done two tours, just don't worry about it until you have to but be warned your wife will be pretty much unlivable with the entire time, stressed to heck and inseperable from her phone!

you should recieve a letter telling you how many people can come, but sometimes if you ring up and ask for extra spaces they'll let you. x
