This forum will hopefully be of use to you in your sometimes daunting new environment. But don't worry, the locals can be quite friendly really, like myself of course. :wink:.

I will try to include things such as places to go and things to do, information on friends and family travel and various other activities available to you.

Be it serious or funny, please place your comments about Northern Ireland in here. But please do bear in mind that the site is aimed at all the family so please make your posts as 'clean' as possible.

Best description I've heard is the Emerald Toilet! On his return from a 2 year stint a friend of mine repainted his toilet a particularly lovely shade of green. He then installed all his pictures/memorabilia etc in there and, volia, his own Emerald Toilet.

Can any of youse out there on "the mainland" explain why you call us Irish without looking at where we are from?

Joe, I am the sort of person who after many hassles in her life prefers to not make things too complicated. It is just easier to say I am oirish than to get into a geography lesson with some people.

It's just the way I am , but when I am on home turf, I prefer to call myself English as I only came to these blessed shores when i was about 6 as I'd spent my youth as a pad brat. My dad is English and my mum is from Belfast. If you include the fact I was born in Germany, I just prefer to call myself Heinz 57 varieties as where I am from is not that clear cut

When I was living in England, I was known as Irish. That stemming from the fact that I had an Irish accent. I am not that fussy that I would glare at them and say "No, I am Northern Irish!!!"

My name comes from the fact that I was the only irish 'doris' on the camp. And so, a filthy , potty-mouthed legend was born

Do you know something I never get asked that question...........dunno why...my broad Belfast accent must make me sound really unapproachable! :lol:

Don't worry, I have had a lot of American's ask;

Where in Australia are you from?

To be honest, if you don't know the difference between the accent your gonna ask the 'round' Q.

Mind you, my cousin was asked 'where in Ireland you from' the other day and he is from East Kilbride, that went down like a lead tanker!
